The feature race at Eagle Farm this Saturday is the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), the best race Brisbane has to offer.

2025 Stradbroke Handicap Runner Preview:
1. Private Eye: Given the depth in this Stradbroke is thin, I keep coming back to the class, which is clearly Private Eye. He is the best horse, by an absolute mile, and yes he is first up, but he has had four trials to get ready, so I don’t think fitness will be an issue. Plus, good speed in front, he’ll get every chance to launch late.
2. Rothfire: He has Jesus Christ riding him, but even with that big positive…the set up and injury concerns is enough for me to say he is a risk.
3. Desert Lightning: He didn’t do a bad job in the Spear Chief last Saturday and has an ideal map in his corner here, but just not sure he has the class/quality.
4. Kimochi: SCR
5. Yellow Brick: He led and tired late in the BRC Sprint when resuming. I think he’s better with a bunny to chase, but the run was poor and I can’t entertain him.
6. Golden Mile: Ridden with intent in the Kingsford Smith last Saturday and was hailed as the winner when let down but was nabbed late in a thrilling finish. That form is A1, he maps perfect…definite threat.
7. War Machine: War Machine has to be rated as one of the hardest to beat after his win in the BRC Sprint. There was a lot of class, quality and arrogance about the way he put them away and how strong he was in the run to the line. He missed out on the Group 1 in the Spring but I do think he gets a golden chance to get it here.
8. Payline: He was luckless in the 10,000, then last weekend in the Kingsford Smith, he had none given the race shape. He can threaten with his best, but I’d rather watch.
9. Punch Lane: Punch Lane is on the seven day back up after racing last Saturday in the Moreton Cup. He just found them too sharp over 1200m and while he was outsprinted, he actually picked up and was quite good late in the piece. Like him on the back up, up in trip, will press forward…I say he only runs well.
10. Front Page: Too good for them last Saturday in the Moreton Cup, but that was a terrible race and I don’t see him running 1400m out strongly.
11. Robusto: He is a fascinating runner. First up for Bjorn Baker after a busy Spring/Summer prep, where he really came of age. Dodged the Autumn, and first up here I find very interesting. Trials have been great, watch betting.
12. Far Too Easy: Ran a much improved race in the BRC Sprint but he is too hit and miss for mine.
13. Rise At Dawn: He may have needed the run in the Kingsford Smith but for mine, he seemingly had every chance and was just fair in the run to the line. Hard 1400m is ideal, fitter, down in the weights…he can run well, but for mine, he’s unders.
14. The Instructor: He’s a beauty that busts his gut every time he steps out…but surely this is a bridge too far.
15. Bosustow: I wanted to completely pen him after the Fred Best. But, he was second up, off a big first up win, and he just raced a touch on the flat side. Hard fit now, truly run 1400m and right down in the weights, I think he’ll run very well.
16. The Inflictor: Tough customer that was strong in his Doomben win last time. But he has been beating nothing and I don’t see him measuring up here at all. Surprised he is the price he is.
17. Firestorm: SCR
18. Spicy Martini: On paper, face value, just a win in the Fred Best, but, I really liked the way she knuckled down to wear them down and win. 2/2 at Eagle Farm, right down in the weights and maps ideally. Only runs well.
19. Coleman (First Emergency): He trialled like a star but has raced like a camel, even including last Saturday.
20. Transatlantic (Second Emergency): If he gets a run, he’s a single figures chance. But I am not sure he gets a run.
21. Waterford (Third Emergency): SCR

Currently, War Machine holds favouritism at around $2.35, clearly leading the market. Not far behind, Rise At Dawn is ranked second favourite at $8.00, with Private Eye sitting closely on the third line at $11.00.
Golden Mile and Kimochi are both rated near $12–13, showing solid value for their chances . Meanwhile, Rothfire and The Inflictor are somewhat further out at $18, indicating they’re seen as rougher chances.
