The Scone Cup (1600m) this Friday shapes up to be an intriguing contest, with the race being a Qualifier for the Big Dance.

2025 Scone Cup Runner Preview:
1. Port Lockroy: SCR
2. Al Mubhir: SCR
3. Amenable: He didn’t really get the clearest of paths at Randwick last time behind Sandpaper. He arguably should have won the Luskin Star last year and is racing like 1600m suits.
4. Mighty Ulysses: Hard fit now being third up but his two runs back have been plain so he goes through to the keeper.
5. Tavi Time: Did work to land on speed in the Hawkesbury Cup and just felt the pinch late. Maps much better this time around…just not sure how well he is going.
6. Major Beel: Didn’t think he was too bad in defeat fresh at Randwick behind Punch Lane. I think with a more positive ride, he’ll lead and take beating.
7. Loch Eagle: He is a very good horse at this level when right. But I reckon he may need the run.
8. West Of Africa: I did love hi, and thought he was the Doncaster horse. But, his recent runs tell me he is a tired horse and wants the paddock.
9. Ducasse: Ducasse has been up a little while but is holding his form well enough. He ran two weeks back at Randwick when off speed and kept chasing but was simply no match for Punch Lane, who was dominant in the Hawkesbury Cup next start, so the form reads well and commands respect.
10. Floating: SCR
11. Grebeni: Pretty much went around like a barrier trial at Randwick last time. Tick over trial was good and maps to get a sweet run in transit. He’s a threat with his best.
12. Redstone Well: He is suited back to the mile but just not sure how well he is going.
13. Bank Maur: Loved the way he let down to win fresh in the Apache Cat Classic but this is much harder.
14. Bold Mac: SCR
15. Know Thyself: He can win, clearly, and his Coast win was outstanding. Hard fit, flying, home track advantage…tips plenty of boxes. Just too short.
16. Strait Acer: Sneaky flying and was very good in the Hawkesbury Cup. Dangerous if he can get a drag into the race.
17. Kadavar (First Emergency): I dare say he has eyes on something like the Grafton/Caloundra Cup.
18. Sibaaq (Second Emergency): SCR
19. Royal Supremacy (Third Emergency): Market will be fascinating. He has strong overseas form, but is he here to play?
20. Green Fly (Fourth Emergency): SCR
