The second of the majors this afternoon at Morphettville is the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m), with the field looking quite strong in an open contest.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Robert Sangster Stakes.
2025 Robert Sangster Stakes Runner Preview:
1. Asfoora: I thought she was vulnerable first up in the Irwin but class came to the fore and she was much too good. Tricky draw, but will press forward, has upside/improvement and has class on her side.
2. Stretan Angel: I would have assumed Neindorf had the choice between this girl and Climbing Star. The fact he chooses the other…is out of loyalty? Not sure, because I do think that Stretan Angel is the better horse and she is flying. Has to be respected.
3. Climbing Star: Has clearly been set for this and her first up run in the Irwin was a beauty. Good speed in front, she’ll get her chance to finish over the top…but I’d want double figures. I can’t have her as favourite.
4. Estriella: If you are a forgiving type, you’re getting a big price about a mare who has had no luck in two runs back, and was a short priced favourite in this race last year. Maps to land on speed and her best is clearly good enough.
5. See You In Heaven: Quality mare that is first up. I say Quality mare, but at this level, I don’t think she is up to them.
6. A Little Deep: A Little Deep is a few weeks between runs since a win down the straight at Flemington where she knuckled down with purpose late to win and win well. She was only first up there so with upside/improvement to come and up to 1200m, she’s one of the leading contenders.
7. Commemorative: I think the wide gate/B Shinn set up is perfect to get good cover, a drag into the race and launch late. She seems a dynamic mare when having a bunny to chase vs being the bunny. Definite chance.
8. Aviatress: I can’t work out why she is so tight in betting. I thought she was quite plain in the Irwin and others from that race into this, IMO, have more to offer. Keen to oppose.
9. Charm Stone: First up here so obviously there is clear intent for the Group l. Tricky draw though and will need luck in running. If she wins, I am losing on the race.
10. Roll On High: The inside gate could be messy, but she is flying. Closed off strongly in the Victoria Handicap at Caulfield, just missing in a three way go. She’ll do no work in the run and be effective late.
11. Prairie Flower: Awful racing pattern but she’s flying at present. If she can get a drag into the race, she can launch at them and she has the finale to overhaul them.
12. Dakota Lee: SCR
13. Austmarr: Had the track pattern in her corner last start and was too good. Harder here, not for me.
14. Ameena: Ameena looks woudn right up to go here. Team Freedman trained filly that resumes, and she looks to be set for the race first up, where she tends to race best. She hasn’t raced since the Thousand Guineas Prelude where she got back and did make up ground but was never a factor behind Too Darn Lizzie. Jumpout work has been excellent and she does seem effective as a sprinter.
15. She’s Got Pizzazz: She’s Got Pizzazz gave them a start and a beating to win the PJ Bell three weeks ago, letting down with good late speed from off the speed to score. She seemed to relish being ridden with a sit so if that can eventuate here, she’s going to take beating against these.
16. Jasmin Rouge: SCR
2025 Robert Sangster Stakes $100 Betting Strategy:
$20 Win/$80 Place Ameena.
Group l Strategy Outlay: $6250
Group l Strategy Return: $3964.50
2025 Robert Sangster Stakes Speed Map
Estriella looks the leader from the inside gate, but Asfoora will slide across from out wide. Austmarr is a go forward type, while Charm Stone could press on. Commemorative could slide across via Asfoora.
