The pair will again come face to face at Royal Randwick in a Chautauqua-less TJ Smith Stakes field after both having won last start, Redzel easily taking out the 1000m Challenge Stakes with In Her Time claiming victory in the Galaxy over English.
Seemingly improving with every run, In Her Time will be hunting her 4th win in 5 starts, her streak being disrupted only by an interfered run in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes with the protest by Corey Brown dismissed for her to be awarded 2nd.
Redzel on the other hand has earned the title of Australia’s premier sprinter in recent times, beaten only by Royal Ascot-bound Redkirk Warrior in his last 8 starts. The Peter & Paul Snowden galloper has one major advantage however, that it, he has beaten in her time by an aggregate of 9 lengths in 2 meetings together.
In comparison however, despite In Her Time’s obvious time advantage, Redzel has an imposing record of 6 starts for 4 wins over the distance, 2 from 2 over 1200 at Randwick. In Her Time has won 3 from 6 however has gone 1 better at the track, winning 3 from 3.
Both have convincingly won trials lately, Redzel by 3L over 1000m in a time of 0:58.03 and In Her Time by 4.1L over the same distance, in a better time of 0:57.86. Almost impossible to split, Redzel (58.5 kg) will carry 2 kg more than In Her Time (56.5 kg), drawing barrier 6 and 3 respectively.
Redzel is currently the $2.15 favourite with Sportsbet.com.au, with In Her Time of the second line of betting at $4.00. It will be one of the most anticipated battles of the year so far, closely followed by the battle between Humidor, Kementari and Happy Clapper in the final event of the day.
