Eight runners have been accepted for the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) this Saturday at Rosehill, where the market suggests it will be an open race.

All things being equal, El Bodegon should lead provided he jumps clean. Mo’Unga has been a bit one paced this time in and will sit outside him. Hinged has led previously but likely opts for the box seat. Gold Trip will have to drift back while the two overseas raiders, Dubai Honour and Raise You, like cover.
2023 Ranvet Stakes Runner Preview:
1 Gold Trip: Joe Pride isn’t a trainer lacking confidence when it comes to talking up his horses and he is talking this guy up. Those carrying 57kg+ in recent years have a pretty good record. But, I feel his Grand Final is the TJ Smith and top end, there is good depth to this line up.
2 Mo’Unga: He is one of a few that are ready to take the mantle from Nature Strip as #WBS. He was so good without winning in the Spring and the stable have deliberately set him for this, then the TJ, then spell and have a crack at The Everest. His trial work has been excellent, he commands respect.
3 Dubai Honour: I could have him totally wrong, but I don’t think he’s that good and you’ve heard of the J Mac tax. Here, it’s the Haggas tax. He has solid form lines around him, but it’s not proper elite, and for the most part, he has failed to measure up. I am keen to take him on.
4 Raise You: To me, this looks a prep run for the Sydney Cup. He is a very good 2400m+ horse so 2000m here seems on the short side. He has the class to measure up. Not sure he has the turn of foot, but I’d much rather back him than Dubai Honour.
5 Bankers Choice: He’s flying this horse. Flying to win a Ranvet? I am saying no. That said, he was very good from the back in the Blamey two weeks ago. Like him up to 2000m and really, it’s hard to ignore anything M Dee rides in a Group l at the moment.
6 El Bodegon: Contender or pretender time for El Bodegon. Can make a case that in the Spring, he goes close in the Cox Plate with a clean jump. That said, his two runs back from a spell have been on the plain side, albeit both times he was up against Anamoe. Clean jump, he’ll land on speed here and with his best, I think he is certainly good enough to be dangerous.
7 Montefilia: Won the race last year and looks to be ticking along nicely for another crack. She was excellent from the back in the Chipping Norton, her first run since the Melbourne Cup, which was a big tick. Fab second up record, loves Rosehill and Gibbons has the experience from the Chipping Norton so he’ll have a better feel of the mare leading into this.
8 Hinged: Key chance. Her run last Saturday in the Coolmore Classic was very good. She was near last in a race dominated by those in the front half of the field. Her late splits were excellent so drawing gate one here, she can settle much closer in the run and prove hard to beat.
