Surprisingly only a tiny field of five runners are entered for this $120,000.00 event for 3yo Colts & Geldings. Three of the runners are last start winners, including the Happy Galaxy who recorded a strong four length win at Rosehill and is a short priced favourite ($1.85).

1. RUSAMBO – K McEvoy (3)
Darley runner who claimed the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) last preparation and who tackles this race first up since bleeding when running third to Snitzerland in the G2 Danehill Stakes (beaten 3.7 lenghts) on the 8th September. Has always shown a bit of promise and was starting realise his potential last preparation.
Odds: $4.20
2. HAPPY GALAXY – D Dunn (5)
Nadeem colt from Team Hawkes that recorded a narrow win in a BM 70m (1200m) at Rosehill before a dominant front running display at his following start saw him record a four length win in a BM 75 (1200m) again at Rosehill. No doubt will follow a similar pattern again and try to lead and in winning form. Whilst this is his first look at Caulfield, has had a couple of starts the Victorian way of going previously.
Odds: $1.90
3. TIMELY TRUCE – D Yendall (2)
Lining up for start sixteen and has registered two wins including his most recent outing, at Kilmore in a RST 68 (1100m) event, where he settled just of the pace. Has come to town a few times in his career for a crack at some good races but has come up short on each occasion.
Odds: $21.00
4. ROYAL HAUNT – L Nolen (1)
5. WAKEEL – C Williams (4)
Broke his maiden status in a Ballarat Maiden back in September of last year and backed that up with a head win, again at Ballarat, in a RST 62 (1100m) event before a spell. Returned to racing in Adelaide and recorded a 3.9 length fifth of nine at Morphetville Park in a RST 75 (1000m). He’ll need to improve several lengths on that effort to account for a few of the above runners.
Odds: $31.00
OVERVIEW
Happy Galaxy goes to the lead – often an advantage around here, is in winning form but by the same token, short enough at $1.85. I’ll opt for the Moody runner, Royal Hunt. He should get a lovely trail and we’ve seen Moody follow this pattern of taking his young horses to the country and learning to win races, with plenty of success over the years. Just can’t quite gauge Rusambo who comes back from his bleeding attack with no trials but on his best, the $4.20 should attract interest.
