Despite a small field of seven mares lining up for this Group 3 event, the early market reflects a competitive race with There’s Only One early favourite at $3.40 just in advance of Koonoomoo at $3.80. Of the remaining five runners only two are over double figures, Thy and Tavarnelle who both resume from a spell.

Fraces Tressady Stakes Form Guide
1. THERE’S ONLY ONE – (3)
A consistent mare from Peter Moody’s yard who won the G3 Bellmaine Stakes first up three weeks back, making it her ninth career win from eighteen starts. In fact, the 5yo mare by Testa Rossa has only finished worse than fourth once in her career. Second up with a good draw here, she’ll go close to making it ten wins.
Odds: $3.40
2. KOONOOMOO – S Arnold (3)
She won the G3 Herald Sun Stakes (1400m) back in the Spring over this course and trip when, like she is here today, having her fourth run into her preparation. She was good two starts back when a close up third (beaten a head) behind There’s Only One in the G3 Bellmaine Stakes before having a crack at the G1 Futurity last weekend, finishing seventh behind All Too Hard. Much better placed back to the conditions of this race and has handled the quick back-up previously.
Odds: $4.00
3. BONNIE MAC – K McEvoy (1)
She’s been close enough at her last two starts to be a contender here. She’s finished fourth behind Sea Lord in the G2 Australian Stakes and at her last start, fifth (beaten 1 ¾) to There’s Only One in the G3 Bellmaine. Drawn to get a lovely run and meets There’s Only One 2kg’s better for there last encounter.
Odds: $8.00
4. JOLIE BLONDE – L Currie (3)
Lightly raced Testa Rossa 4yo mare trained by Mark Riley at Mornington who won the Listed Hareeba Stakes, finishing from worse than mid-field, at her home track last start defeating Launay and Sheila’s Star. That was a good type of win and that made it four wins from eight starts, still on the improve and worth consideration here at $8.00
Odds: $8.00
5. SHEILA’S STAR – D Dunn (7)
Snitzel mare who was tipped out after three unsuccessful runs during the Spring. She returned in better form when third (beaten ¾ lengths) behind Jolie Blonde in the Hareeba Stakes a little over a fortnight ago. Does have a win this track and trip over Star of Giselle and demonstrated by her first up effort, that she could be back to that kind of form.
Odds: $4.00
6. THY – (4)
She beat the smart Chateau Margaux back in the August of last year, when first up – like she is her today over this trip on a heavy track over this trip on a heavy track. She hasn’t been seen since then and no barrier trials to go on either. Ran third in the Australian Oaks and fourth in the G1 Vinery Stakes as a 3yo, so has the ability but think she’ll need this hit-out after seven months off.
Odds: $19.00
7. TAVARNELLE – (6)
A Zabeel 4yo who faces the starter for the first time since finishing ninth (beaten 4 lengths) in a Flemington Open (1700m) back in November. Ran last of four in a barrier trail at Warwick Farm on the 15th Feb. She’s about the only runner in the race that would surprise, were she able to win this.
Odds: $19.00
OVERVIEW.
Very competitive race but backing Sheila’s Star to recapture the form of this time last year that saw her claim three of five starts including, as mentioned above, a near on four length win this track and distance over smart mares. There’s Only One just never runs a bad race and she’s been perfectly placed here again under the Set Weight conditions.
