3yo Fillies line up for the $120,000 Quezette stakes which is highlighted by the return to racing of champion 2yo filly, Samaready. View our full race preview including tips and selections.

Lister Quezette Stakes (Listed) – 1100m

Caulfield, 18th August

1. SAMAREADY – C Newitt (1)

Couldn’t have done more in her first prep winning four of her five starts and running third in
the Golden Slipper. She’s been allocated 58.5kgs here and the inside draw of barrier one, in a field of 13 runners could be easily turn into a negative rather than a plus but confident Newitt will be able to navigate the run well.

Odds: $2.25

2. REAL STOLLE – A Spiteri (8)

Won the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate at her second career start in November last year before being spelled. Returned in the Autumn but in three runs, failed to produce finishing well down the track on each occasion. First up today but on form displayed last prep and no trial information to go on, the early quote of $121 looks about right.

Odds: $121.00

3. MAMA’S CHOICE – S Arnold (12)

Well bred filly for David Hayes that won on debut (Listed Chairman’s Stakes) in February but two subsequent runs resulted in a seventh (beaten 9.9) in the Blue Diamond and twelfth (beaten 12.6) in Sire’s Produce. No trial form and has drawn wide.

Odds: $61.00

4. ARMED FOR ACTION – Craig Williams (13)

Four runs earlier this year resulted in two wins (Mornington Maiden and Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes) and a third in the Blue Diamond (beaten 5 lenghts). Improved with each run of initial campaign and despite not being seen at the public trials and the widest draw, she’s trimmed from an opening price of $21.00 to $19.00.

Odds: $21.00

5. FORMIDABLE – C Symons (11)

Was competitive in the leading Melbourne 2yo races in initial campaign running second in the Blue Diamond Prelude and Chairman’s Stakes before failing in the Blue Diamond and being spelled. Awkward draw

Odds: $21.00

6. ELITE ELLE – D Oliver (10)

Filly by Shamardal who has won all three starts to date (Maiden, Restricted Metro and Open class respectively). Who latest win was only seven weeks ago here at Caulfield on a Slow track where she carried 57kg to win by 1 ¾

Odds: $5.00

7. MEMBERS JOY – M Zahra (5)

Won an 2yo Open race at Sandown on debut in November and back that up with a second in the Blue Diamond Preview before form tapered off and she finished down the track in the Blue Diamond Prelude and Blue Diamond. Has had a barrier trail which she was by four lenghts on the 30th July at Cranbourne and from her draw, can settle on speed.

Odds: $19.00

8. LADY OF HARRODS – J Mott (9)

Debuted in November last year (fourth in Maribyrnong Plate) and returned earlier this year for two runs – finishing six of eight and then winning Caulfield 2yo Open event where she settled on the speed and had every chance.

Odds: $26.00

9. BLOOMINGDALE MISS – M Rodd (4)

Has had two starts in her career registering a second in a Cranbourne Maiden on debut before stepping out as 5/2 favourite in an Caulfield 2yo Open race and saluting the judge by a winning margin of 1 ¼ . Another step up in class here today obviously but comes from an astute yard and has the benefit of a top jockey, good draw and race fitness on her side.

Odds: $9.00

10. AGUEDA – V Duric (6)

Had seven starts as a 2yo for trainer Anthony Cummings and built a good record in the process including a second to Driefontein in the Widden Stakes, second again in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes and two close fourths in the Group 3 Sweet Embrace and Listed Keith Mackay. Has won a barrier trial in Sydney on the 30th July and has the services of inform Jockey Vlad Duric at her disposal. Expect to run a big race

Odds: $15.00

11. EPHEMERA – L Nolen (2)

Wouldn’t be a good race in Melbourne without Moody and Nolen teaming up on a leading chance and they do so here with the filly by More Than Ready. She’s won both her runs this time in with the most recent, a very comfortable 4 ¼ win over in Adelaide. Drawn well here.

Odds: $9.00

12. MAREEZA – B Melham (7)

Drifted in betting and raced erratically when returning from a spell here on the 28th July, finishing fifth beaten 5.5 lenghts. Been given three weeks since that run but would have to be able to produce a significant improve to be winning here.

Odds: $21.00

13. CONVENE – M Walker (3)

Third of Moody’s runners who chased home Bloomingdale Miss first up here at Caulfield on the 28th July. Drawn well and meets Bloomingdale Miss, who is on the third line of betting at $8.50, a kilo better.

Odds: $21.00

OVERVIEW:

Can’t go past Samaready and the concern about the inside gate is negated by the $2.40 on offer. She produces here 2yo form here she should be winning. The Sydney visitor Agueda who, outside the favourite has the best race record of today’s competitors to date, attracts plenty of attention at $13.00 (Opened at $15.00). Luke Nolen would’ve had the first choice of Moody’s runners and happy to following his lead and include Ephemera.
