The feature race of the day sees eight 3yo’s line up over the mile where the Gai Waterhouse trained Pierro is a dominant favourite at , It appears only bad luck will prevent him from joining an outstanding honour roll of past winners that include; Redoute’s Choice, Show A Heart, Lonhro, Starstangledbanner and Helmet.

Caulfield Guineas Form Guide

1. PIERRO

Freakish colt who remains unbeaten after eight starts. He claimed the 2yo Triple Crown last season and returned to racing with an emphatic win in the G3 Run To The Roses before an effortless victory (winning by 4.8 lengths) in the G2 Bill Stutt Stakes at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago. The one they have to beat.

Odds: $1.20

2. EPAULETTE

Son of Commands and half brother to last year’s Caulfield Guineas winner, Helmet. He has had three runs in this prep and coming off good wins in the G1 Golden Rose before a professional effort last start when claiming the G3 Guineas Prelude. The distance will suit but he has met Pierro three times in the past with the best of these efforts, a nose second in the Todman Stakes (1200m).

Odds: $9.00

3. ALL TOO HARD

Half brother to Champion mare Black Caviar who won his first three career starts in very good fashion but in four hasn’t been able to register another win in four subsequent starts. He tackled the mile for the first time last start when fourth of eight behind Shoot Out in the G1 George Main Stakes (beaten 3.1). Be suited back here and should be doing best work late.

Odds: $13.00

4. ASHOKAN

Son of More Than Ready whose only win in seven starts has been in the G3 Skyline Stakes back in March. Has improved at each of his three runs back this prep with a third in the G1 Golden Rose (beaten 2.5) followed by a close up fourth (beaten 1.4) in the Guineas Prelude behind Epaulette. Only win was on Slow.

Odds: $41.00

5. ROAD TRIPPIN

Stephen Theodore trained galloper who won a Bendigo Maiden first up three starts back but at has struggled since in an a Caulfield Open behind Hvasstan and at his most recent start, fourth of seven (beaten 7.6) behind Pierro in the Stutt Stakes. It is hard to include him among the chances on his most recent efforts.

Odds: $151.00

6. CARRINGBUSH JACK

Struggled on the Slow and Heavy of Moonee Valley and Flemington before a much better effort on a drier track, when second (beaten 3/4) behind promising Philippi and again at his last and most recent start, when second to Pierro. Ridden forward last two starts and stuck on well. Likely to go forward again.

Odds: $101.00

7. AWESOME BRO

Improving type by Darci Brahma who, after starting favourite in the Listed Henry Bucks (1400m) where he finished second behind Jimando, really caught the eye last start in the Guineas prelude with a fast finishing third (beaten 0.6) behind Epaulette. Appears that the trip will be to his advantage and a repeat performance of last start should see him in the placings here.

Odds: $17.00

8. LET GO LENNI

A promising colt by Stratum from the Mick Price stable that has only had the three starts to date. Easily won a Kilmore Maiden before at his last start, showed plenty of cheek when rolling in front to run second to Epaulette. He’s an improving type who should not be underestimated.

Odds: $41.00

OVERVIEW

Let Go Lenni and Caringbush Jack roll forward with possibly Ashokan coming across from his wide draw. It is impossible to go past Pierro who, despite drawing a little awkwardly, looks set to keep his unbeaten record in tact. Might be enough pace up front to give a few in the second half of the field their chance here.  Include Awesome Bro (his trainer Leo Corstens has won this race twice in the past ten years) and All Too Hard in the multiples.
