Some of the best mares in Australia will do battle this Saturday at Randwick in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m).
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2024 Queen Of The Turf Stakes.
2024Β Queen Of The Turf Stakes Speed Map
Think the speed will be solid enough. Tropical Squall looks the leader, with Osmose and Makarena not too far away. Zougotcha and Atishu will look to hold forward spots from the inside gate.
2024Β Queen Of The Turf Stakes Runner Preview:
1. Atishu: She’s a good thing as far as I am concerned. Ran an absolute blinder in the Australian Cup behind Cascadian and at the time of writing, she is accepted as well for the Queen Elizabeth but for mine, she is much better suited at the mile, against her own sex, and from the gate, she gets the run of the race, strong late, won the race last year…think she’ll win it again.
2. Zougotcha: Zougotcha was scratched from the Doncaster last Saturday to dodge the wet track and she should find firmer footing here. Loved the way she toughed it out to win the Coolmore Classic, lumping topweight and finished best in a driving go. She is a proven big time performer at the Randwick mile and with fresh legs, clearly appeals.
3. Campionessa: Ripping mare who arguably should have won last time at The Valley but had zero luck. She has won up to 2500m so a tough mile here is ideal…the gate is the sticking point. If she drew an inside gate, I’d be keen to speck her each way.
4. Ruthless Dame: Whacked away in the Emancipation but she is poorly suited at WFA I feel and is better suited in a handicap. Gate also seals her fate IMO.
5. Semana: Ripping mare. Tried her guts out in the Coolmore Classic but just missed out on the win when a narrow second to Zougotcha. Hard to see her turning the tables and with that in mind, keen to take her on.
6. Olentia: A spike out of nowhere in the Emancipation where she was on the seven day back up and gapped them. Can she improve off that career spike, because this is different gravy, she has a tricky draw and will need to improve.
7. Eternal Flame: Connections paid the late nom for her to run here, so they have confidence in her. She’s been up a while but is flying and was a strong winner at The Valley. Maps to get a beaut run in transit and has change up speed. She is overs for mine.
8. Foxy Frida:Β Β Foxy Frida is a talented mare for Andrew Noblet that should take a power of beating against these. She comes through the Coolmore Classic where she got back to near last in the run and while she was never threatening, I didn’t mind the way she finished her race off behind Zougotcha. Kept on ice for this and her best is good enough to be a threat at a big price.
9. Renaissance Woman: Was keen on her in the Neville Sellwood but gee she was plain late after getting every chance. 2000m back to 1600m is ideal though…her best sees her as a sneaky knockout hope, but prefer to watch her.
10. Madame Pommery: Hasn’t come up as well as previously, she goes through to the keeper.
11. Osmose: Showed really good ticker to win the Epona three weeks ago over 1900m. Got a dream run in transit and toughed it out best to win. She’ll be strong late, but she lacks the class/quality.
12. Barbie’s Fox: I reckon she is sneaky flying but they are aiming too high with her. Needs it easier.
13. More Secrets: Nice mare but needs it easier.
14. Tropical Squall: Hippo riding 54.5kg I find very interesting. He must have faith in this girl. Great win in the Surround and was game as ever on speed in the Coolmore Classic. She loves Randwick, she leads for fun I feel and if she gets control, she’s going to take running down.
15. Arctic Glamour: Arctic Glamour is a knockout chance for Ryan/Alexiou. This filly ran two weeks back in the Emancipation and while she was held by Olentia, I did like the way she found the line out wide, which wasn’t the spot to be for the meeting when it came to making ground. She’s hit and miss but with her best, she has the engine under the hood to be dangerous.
16. Makarena: Slaughtered in the Emancipation and it was an ugly watch. Think the ride will be more positive this time around, she’ll get a good run in transit and I think she is going well enough to be a threat.
17. Tiz Invincible: Not disgraced in the George Ryder…but she’s not a Group l horse I feel.
