Treasurethe Moment has emerged as one of the best-backed runners for Saturday’s Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, with punters rallying behind the Matt Laurie-trained mare to extend her winning streak.
The four-year-old, who starred as a three-year-old last season, has firmed from $7 into $5 with bookmakers since acceptances were declared on Wednesday, making her the most heavily supported runner in the feature.
Treasurethe Moment will be chasing her ninth straight victory, a sequence that began last September and includes Group 1 triumphs in the VRC Oaks, Vinery Stud Stakes and ATC Australian Oaks.
The Memsie, which marks the start of Group 1 racing for the Victorian spring, has attracted a field of 11 acceptors, eight of whom are resuming their campaigns. Laurie’s mare will face tough opposition, including Ciaron Maher’s early favourite Another Wil, last year’s winner Mr Brightside, and Sydney star Fangirl, who has travelled south to avoid wet tracks.
Track conditions will play a key role, with Caulfield rated in the slow range on Thursday. Up to 15mm of rain is forecast for Friday, followed by a further 2mm to 6mm on race day.
