Sometimes just watching the fields come out leads you to a tip.
For instance when Saturday’s fields for Randwick arrived, and you looked through them, the TAB Highway shone brightly.
This is because Greg Ryan had a ride.
Why is that significant?
Well, Greg Ryan is the winningest jockey in NSW. He is a legend in the bush and regularly rides multiple winners on a card.
He rarely comes to town though and almost never on a Saturday.
This Saturday, however, he will and he is going to ride the much hyped sprinter HEALING HANDS (I Am Invincible-Miss Alberta).
Gayna Williams at Mudgee trains him and he has had 3 starts for a pair of wins and a 2nd. Both times he won, he won easily and Ryan rode him each time.
His latest win was at Dubbo when he bounded clear of a Class 1 field over 1400m in February and won by nearly 5 lengths with his head on his chest.
He was spelled after that with The Kosciuszko in mind, and on Saturday he takes his first bold step toward that lofty goal.
Recently he showed his fitness with a barrier trial romp.
Ryan lives in Dubbo.
He has a full book of rides on Friday at Dubbo where he probably will ride a double or a treble or some other form of multiple success, and then head home for an early evening before leaving in the dark for Sydney on Saturday.
It takes nearly 6 hours from his place to Randwick and his Highway ride is at 12.10pm.
That long time is generally the reason he doesn’t make the trek down the Castlereagh Highway etc.
So you’ve just got to know he’s doing it for a very smart horse on Saturday.
