There were some pretty strong performances at the Randwick trials on Monday, with Gai Waterhouse dominating on her home track. Find out down below who caught our eye the most.

Randwick- Monday, May 25, Weather Fine, Track Heavy9.
Heat Three- Avoid Lightning (1st) and Hot Snitzel (2nd):
Star studded trial but it was the first two that greeted the judge that I wanted to focus on. Avoid Lightning sat off the speed before peeling wide and letting down strongly under little pressure to grab Hot Snitzel, who attempted to lead all the way and was grabbed late but did travel well himself. As for Catkins, who ran third, I thought she was just fair. She was placed under more pressure and didn’t respond as well as the first two.
Heat Five- Dark Steel (1st) and Lucky Fish (2nd):
Two youngsters for Gai, and the boom is on the winner, who led all the way to win impressively. It should be noted he is accepted for tomorrow at Gosford, but as I write this, he is still in the field. As for Lucky Fish, he jumped okay to settle near last before getting a gap at the top of the straight and showing an electric turn of foot between the 250m-100m, and while he didn’t win, he was impressive himself.
Heat Seven- Our Catch (1st):
Another Gai runner, and this one was easily the best of the morning. He sat on speed, but was out wide on the track. McEvoy took him to near the outside fence at the top of the straight, and he was under a big grip in winning, and will no doubt be winning races this prep.
Heat Nine- Ball Of Muscle (1st):
Tuned up for the QTC Cup with a lovely trial win here, leading throughout and pretty much just towing Glyn Schofield throughout in the trial. Very impressive and will take a power of beating this Saturday at Doomben.
