Macroura was one of the most notable firmers late in betting for the running of the Cellarbrations Handicap (1000 metres).

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace runner was backed from $9-$5 on the day and was the second most popular runner in the race outside of Wild Ruler, which blew significantly.

Wild Ruler began the day as a clear $2.70 favourite but despite the heavy support (he held 32 percent of the money), got out to $5.50 in the end and lost top spot in the market to the winner.

The pair quinellaed the result in front of Newsreader ($12-$16). There were moves for several other runners including Velorum ($6) and Private Agent ($8.50-$7).

BETS: Macroura $1,000 e/w @ $6.50/$2.10

BETS: Velorum $4,500 e/w @ $6.50/$2.30, $1,000 @ $6

BETS: Wild Ruler $3,500 @ $3.80

BETS: El Buena $1,004 @ $10

Yonkers was extremely popular with TAB customers to win the Coolmore Handicap (1800 metres).

Opening the day at $4, he was backed into as low as $3.4 before getting back out to $3.90 at the jump.

Hugh Bowman settled the gelding third and let the leaders tear at each other, timing his run perfectly to knock off Gone Bye ($7-$6.50) which nearly led all-the-way.

New Arrangement ($5.50-$6) had good backing and wound up third while the most popular runner was Amitto ($3.20-$3.80) which went around as a slight favourite.

Between Yonkers and Amitto they dominated the hold and were responsible for 67 percent of the total investment.

BETS: Yonkers $1,500 @ $3.80, $1,000 @ $3.80, $1,000 @ $3.40

BETS: Amitto $3,300 @ $3.80, $1,500 @ $3.80, $1,000 @ $3.80, $1,000 @ $3.30

BETS: California Longbow $1,000 @ $12

Laughing Or Crying ($21) caused an upset in the TAB Highway after proving too tough for his rivals over 1400 metres.

Jean Van Overmeire stuck to the inside and railed through with the Danny Williams runner, holding off the heavily tried Jailbreak ($3.80-$2.90-$3.10) which loomed up for Nash Rawiller but couldn’t go past the winner. Jailbreak held a tick under half the money in the race.

Foxie La Belle ($8.50-$5) was a notable firmer and ran right up to the support to wind up third after tracking up Jailbreak. Of the others, Delago Bay ($19-$11) was specked at the price but couldn’t deliver after leading and weakening.

BETS: Jailbreak $1,000 @ $3.80, $1,750 @ $3.60, $3,000 @ $3.20, $4,000 @ $3.10, $3,500 @ $3.10, $1,500 @ $2.90

BETS: Perfect Pitch $2,000 x $1,000 e/w @ $10/$2.80

Favourite backers were on the money in the SKY Racing Active Handicap (1000 metres) when Fituese was a dominant winner. Ridden a treat by Rachel King, Fituese parked off the speed and sprinted sharply on straightening, swallowing up the leader Witherspoon ($6-$10) and holding off the fast-finishing L’Cosmo ($4.20-$5.50-$5).

The quinella pair held 65 percent of the market between them while Axe firmed from $5-$4.40 before jumping $4.80.

BETS: Fituese $1,579 @ $2.90, $1,500 @ $2.70, $2,400 @ $2.60, $2,000 @ $2.60, $1,000 @ $2.60

BETS: Axe $1,000 @ $6

Dirty Work delivered a big blow to TAB when it raced clear late to take out the fifth event on the program.

The Team Hawkes runner stalked the leading brigade before Hugh Bowman pulled him into the clear on straightening. Sprinting sharply, Dirty Work ($4.80-$3.80-$4) was impressive in landing a number of big bets throughout the day. The son of Written Tycoon was twice as popular as anything else.

Up Trumpz ($16) and Burning Crown ($6-$8.50) filled the minors.

Kylease ($4.60-$6) drifted throughout the day while Sheriff ($18-$21-$6) had consistent support throughout the afternoon and firmed dramatically.

BETS: Got Unders $1,500 @ $41

BETS: Dirty Work $1,300 @ $4.60, $3,000 @ $3.90, $2,500 x $4,000 e/w @ $3.80/$1.70, $1,000 @ $3.80

BETS: Burning Crown $10,000 @ $8.50

BETS: Kylease $1,000 @ $6

Rocha Clock defied the betting drift to land the money in the Ranvet’s Power Formula Handicap (1300 metres).

Opening he day as a $3.20 favourite, the John O’Shea-trained filly blew out to $4.60 at the jump but still went around as the best backed runner in the race.

Coming with a booming finish after being last on the turn, Hugh Bowman timed his run to perfection to land a treble.

So Taken ($5-$4.20-$5) had backing all week after opening $7.50 and finished strongly for second but couldn’t hold off the winner.

The late mover was Sakura ($6-$5) wound up third.

BETS: So Taken $1,000 @ $5

BETS: Bring The Ransom $1,350 e/w @ $5/$1.90

It was Hugh Bowman again in the Quincy Seltzer Handicap (1250 metres) giving him four winners for the day.

Similar to the previous event, Bowman’s runner was a drifter in the market. Hightail had initially opened at $6 on Wednesday and came in for strong backing to be $3.20 this morning, however, he went right back to where he started and jumped at $6.

Hightail tracked up the money horse Hilo ($3) which was planted wide and simply finished too well. Trumbull ($7.50-$6.50) ran on well for second just in front of Hilo which did well to hold third.

BETS: Hightail $2,000 @ $6

BETS: Hilo $2,500 @ $3.20 TWICE, $1,500 @ $3.20, $1,000 @ $3.20, $4,000 @ $3, $2,000 @ $3, $1,500 @ $3 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,000 @ $3 MULTIPLE TIMES

Phaistos rattled home to give Hugh Bowman five winners for the day.

The Godolphin runner was a noted drifter in the TAB Handicap, going from $4.40 in the morning to start a $5.50 chance. That put him on the second line of betting behind Bandersnatch ($2.60) which went around with nearly one-and-a-half times the amount of money on it.

Coming with a booming finish from near last on the turn, Phaistos nailed Thy Kingdom Come ($7) right near the line with Outrageous ($7.50) close up in third. Bandersnatch tired after leading and wound up fourth.

BETS: Phaistos $3,000 @ $5.50

BETS: Bandersnatch $3,450 @ $2.60, $3,000 @ $2.60, $2,000 @ $2.60 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,000 @ $2.60 MULTIPLE TIMES, $5,000 @ $1.35 PLACE

BETS: Outrageous $1,900 @ $7.50

Wild About Her denied Hugh Bowman a sixth winner for the day when she was too strong in the final stages of the Schweppes Handicap (1550 metres).

Glen Boss timed his run perfectly on the Kylie Gavenlock runner, who made her run along with the well tried Juventus ($4.60-$3.80), but it was Boss that prevailed in this one.

California Salto 9$4.40) was the most popular runner in front of Juventus while Word For Word ($7.50) had admirers once again along with Agassi ($4.20-$5).

BETS: Agassi $1,000 @ $5, $2,000 @ $4.20

BETS: California Salto $1,600 @ $4.40, $3,000 @ $4.20

BETS: Juventus $1,175 @ $4.40, $8,800 @ $1.65 PLACE

Diala was the forgotten runner in the opening event on the program at Sandown.

The Team Hawkes runner was pretty solid at the $7 for most of the day and led throughout for Dwayne Dunn, the pair racing clear over the concluding stages to beat Rose Of Sebring ($2-$2.30) which was one of the best supported runners all day.

Wegobam ($5.50) ran on to fill the minor end of the prize while the disappointment in the race was Wyld Savanna ($5-$4.40) which was the best tried horse outside the fav.

BETS: Rose Of Sebring $1,000 @ $2.15, $1,000 @ $2.10, $2,000 @ $2, $1,818 @ $2, $1,812 @ $2

BETS: Wyld Savanna $6,000 @ $5, $5,000 e/w @ $4.80/$2.30, $1,000 @ $4.40 TWICE

Favourite backers were sent packing after the heavily backed Duke Of Plumpton couldn’t reel in the leader over the mile.

Duke Of Plumpton ($2) was one of the best supported runners all day, commanding 60 percent of the total investment and carrying countless big bets. He was also heavily leveraged through multis.

Coming with a big run after being midfield, Duke Of Plumpton couldn’t peg back Shot Of Irish ($4-$5) which was rated a treat by Teo Nugent. It held just a quarter of the money that the favourite did.

Of the others, the fourth horse (Meteor Light) was a significant firmer going $23-$8.50.

BETS: Shot Of Irish $2,500 @ $4.80

BETS: Duke Of Plumpton $5,000 @ $2.10,  $3,000 @ $2.10, $8,000 @ $2, $4,000 @ $2, $2,000 @ $2 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,000 @ $2 MULTIPLE TIMES, $2,000 @ $2, $1,000 @ $2, $1,500 @ $1.90, $1,500 @ $1.85, $1,000 @ $1.85

Specking for several runners at a price proved to be spot on in the MRC Foundation Handicap (1400 metres).

With the favourite Lunakorn going $1.80 out to $2.70 at the jump, the market was spot on with the Anthony Freedman runner only managing fourth as a costly conveyance.

La Chevalee ($10-$7) was tried at the eachway odds and finished powerfully to beat Florent ($21) with the leader Top Pins ($17-$11) running a cracking a race for third.

Stratessa ($14-$9.50) was another that firmed throughout the day.

BETS: Lunakorn $2,000 @ $2.60, $2,500 @ $2.40, $2,000 @ $2.40, $1,500 @ $2.40, $1,429 @ $2.40, $2,000 @ $2.10

BETS: Donttelltheboss $1,500 e/w @ $10/$2.60

BETS: Knowles $2,950 @ $6.50, $1,000 @ $6.50

There was money around to suggest that Atlantica would run a strong race in the fourth event over 1200 metres.

The Henry Dwyer runner was backed from $8.50-$7 before getting back out to $8.50 at the jump.

Racing outside another well tried runner in Raktoff ($16-$6), the daughter of Barbados proved too tough for the frontrunner at the finish.

Flying Sardine ($51) enjoyed a god run behind the leader and nailed Raktoff for second spot. Of the others, Cath’s Village ($11-$6.50-$7) and Zoubo ($11-$9.50) were tried at eachway odds.

BETS: Atlantica $2,000 @ $7

BETS: Zoubo $2,000 e/w @ $10/$2.90, $1,000 @ $9.50

BETS: Raktoff $1,200 @ $6

Hezafox was a good go all week and landed a move that started on Wednesday.

When markets first opened, TAB had Hezafox as a $13 chance with the Greg Eurell runner had specking at the price. Today, the son of Foxwedge was $7-$5 and briefly touched $4.80 to score and land some nice bets in the process.

BETS: Hezafox $2,000 e/w @ $5/$1.90, $1,500 e/w @ $4.80/$1.85

Rising Red landed some nice eachway bets in the sixth event on the card.

Going $8.50-$11-$10 on the day, Rising Red was the fourth most popular runner in terms of money held behind Salsamor ($5.50-$4.80), Starcaster ($4-$5) and Charossa ($11-$8).

Finding the front for Michael Dee, Rising Red kept finding in the straight to defeat Carzoff ($34) and Norway ($12).

BETS: Starcaster $1,900 @ $5.50, $1,000 x $4,000 e/w @ $4.40/$1.85

The late money for Final Man proved spot on in the Salute Frontline Workers Handicap (1200 metres).

The Nick Harnett runner was $4-$2.80 on the day and after Damien Oliver pushed forward at the start to find the front, his backers were on very good terms with themselves.

Final Man was strong to the line and landed a number of big bets to beat Alburq ($4.80) and Sovereign Legend ($11).

BETS: Final Man $1,000 @ $3 MULTIPLE TIMES, $3,000 @ $2.80

BETS: Ancestry $1,000 e/w @ $4/$2

BETS: Open Minded $4,180 @ $5, $2,000 @ $5

The big push for Sams Image went astray in the eighth event on the card.

Backed from $8 in the morning to $2.80 favourite today, Sams Image did plenty of work in the run and couldn’t finish off.

It was left to More Than Exceed ($18) to finish best under Michael Poy to give him three winners for the day.

Barthelona ($8-$5.50) was a good firm throughout the day and actually opened $16 on Wednesday. He wound up second in front of Gododdin ($8-$11) which attempted to lead throughout.

Mystery Love was the big drifter. After being $3.60 in the morning it went out to $5.50 at the jump despite it clearly being the most popular runner in terms of money taken.

BETS: Mystery Love $5,000 @ $5

Buffalo River carried the weight of the nation in the final event on the program at Sandown.

The most popular runner all afternoon at any track across the country, Buffalo River ($2.10-$1.95) landed countless big bets and multis in overhauling Achernar Star ($23) which led and gave its backers a great sight.

Harbour Views ($4.60) was the only horse seriously tried to beat the fav but it was never in the hunt and worked home nicely for third.

Buffalo River was four times as popular as Harbour Views and was responsible for over half the total investment in the race.

BETS: Buffalo River $5,000 @ $2, $4,000 @ $2, $2,687 @ $2, $2,000 @ $2 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,500 @ $2, $1,000 @ $2 MULTIPLE TIMES, $2,100 @ $1.95, $2,000 @ $1.95, $1,200 @ $1.95, $1,000 @ $1.95

Xilong led throughout to take out the TAB Euclase Stakes and land some nice bets with Barend Vorster in the saddle.

The Team McEvoy runner was a late drifter and went $3.90-$4.60, however, it was the best backed runner in the race outside of Garner ($3) which just missed in nailing the leader.

TAB customers had the race spot on with the quinella pairing commanding 60 percent of the market in the race.

BETS: Xilong $5,000 @ $4.60, $1,000 @ $4.60, $1,000 e/w @ $4.60/$1.80,

BETS: Garner $2,000 @ $3.10, $1,500 @ $3, $1,000 @ $3, $9,500 @ $2.90

Damian Thornton enjoyed his first Group One success when he hugged the rails all-the-way with Toffee Tongue to take out the Schweppes Oaks (2000 metres).

The Chris Waller rep was one of the more popular runners all week and proved too good for her rivals after finishing strongly along the fence.

Moonlight Maid ($10) ran right up to the support for her all week and wound up second with Affair To Remember in third.

Toffee Tongue ($6-$5.50-$4.60) was the best firmer late while Affair To Remember ($6.50-$7) had strong backing along with Vegas Jewel ($8-$6) and Sierra Sue ($15-$9.50).
