Country Cup racing continues on Sunday, with the Gunnedah Cup (1600m) attracting a solid field in what is a Big Dance Qualifier.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Gunnedah Cup.
2025 Gunnedah Cup Runner Preview:
1. Osman: The class horse in the race and steps away from metro racing, so he is suited here and does get in very well after the claim. One of the leading contenders.
2.Russian Roni: Several weeks between runs since racing at Ipswich when leading and giving a strong kick from the front but just couldn’t quite see it through. Good racing style, well suited, he appeals.
3.High Dandy: He hasn’t really fired a shot this time in and no jockey booked at the time of writing (Friday) tells me he ain’t running. But even if he does, I can’t have him.
4.Oakfield Prince: Knuckled down with real purpose late to win at Newcastle last time, wearing down Hellfire Express. Gate is tricky but hard to knock the way he’s racing.
5.Dreamdeel: Treating him as a scratching given he has accepted for Newcastle and has a rider booked.
6.Fay’s Angels: Dare say she’ll run at Randwick and not here, so treating her as a scratching.
7.Point Counterpoint: Hasn’t fired a shot in two runs back but this is the first time he has been placed to advantage. He’ll likely get back but with a drag into the race, he can launch late and win.
8.Fiorsum Fred: Impressive first up winner of the Highway last Saturday at Scone, giving them a start and a beating, and was strong to the line in winning. Backing up straight away I find interesting but off the return, he has to be respected.
9.Smart Shot: Didn’t do a bad job at Mudgee last time and is suited up to 1600m. Just not sure where he gets to from the draw.
10.Danza In The Dark: Was okay late in the Country Cup at Scone but I do feel this is much harder and I can’t entertain him.
11.Touch Of Navy: Wide no cover in the Midway last Saturday at Scone and just felt the pinch late. Better map in his corner here but not sure how well he is going.
12.Oh No Bro: He’s making up the numbers.
13.Invincible Red: He seems a big price here for mine. Gave them a start and a beating to win the Glen Innes Cup last time, producing a strong finale from the back. If he can use the inside gate to advantage, he takes beating.
14.Borrowed Luck: Another making up the numbers.
15.Rebel’s Edge (First Emergency): He wasn’t too bad late at Scone last week and the rise in trip will suit. Just depends where he gets to from the gate.
16.Wealthy Investor (Second Emergency): Treating him as a scratching.
17.Sound And Vision (Third Emergency): Will welcome the drop in depth but not sure how well he’s going.
18.Macleay (Fourth Emergency): Good effort behind Invincible Red in the Glen Innes Cup but I think he was held there and I can’t entertain him.
19.Seething Seb (Fifth Emergency): Eligible for Non TAB meetings. Not measuring up here.

The two class runners in the race look the main speed, with Osman and Russian Roni the likely pair to be 1-2 early. Oakfield Prince can settle handy while the rest likely will be opting for cover.
