The 2026 Golden Slipper shapes as a fascinating contest with a deep and even crop of two-year-olds, where a handful of genuine winning chances headline a field full of questions. There looks to be good speed engaged, setting it up for those that can absorb pressure and still finish off strongly, and it’s hard to say anything has completely stamped itself as a clear standout at this stage.
Warwoven brings the right form and profile into the race and looks the one they all have to beat, while Paradoxium and Closer To Free add plenty of depth on speed. The Blue Diamond form through Guest House and Streisand also reads well, while Chayan produced a dominant Reisling win that demands respect. With a mix of proven performers and emerging types, this year’s edition looks wide open and sets up as a high-quality renewal of Australia’s premier juvenile race.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2026 Golden Slipper.
2026 Golden Slipper Runner Preview:
1. Fireball: Thought he was just fair in the Skyline and he didn’t exactly scream out as a Slipper winner in the trial last week. If he wins, too good, but I am keen to oppose.
2. Closer To Free: He has to be respected. Strong debut winner in the Blue Diamond Prelude before a narrow second to Streisand in the big one. Loved the way he went in the trial win last week mentioned above, will press forward and be strong late.
3. Guest House: Guest House is the one I want from the Blue Diamond. I think with clear air he wins but he didn’t get it until it was too late. He still does a bit wrong but clearly has an engine under the hood. If he does everything right, I am convinced he’s going to be in the finish.
4. Warwoven: I have been hot on Warwoven for this race since before the Skyline, he had excuses there, but bounced back in style in the Pago Pago and I am convinced nothing has jumped out of the ground to say they are better than this guy. He got the dream run in the Pago Pago but he had to take advantage and he duly did to win. He’ll press forward, be strong late…very hard to beat.
5. Paradoxium: Very wary of Paradoxium. He was prepped right up for the Todman given he needed to win and yes, he got complete front end control, but he gave nothing a look in and was quite dominant on the line in winning. Good racing style, 1200m no issue, he’s a clear danger.
6. Stretan Ruler: IMO, I can’t see him turning the tables on Paradoxium. Had his chance to run him down and couldn’t. I am against him.
7. Zambales: Worked home strongly in the VRC Sires but just missed. He’ll be strong late…just not entirely sure on how strong his form lines are.
8. Music Time: The fairytale horse being trained by Gratz Vella. Black Opal win was strong, but that race looked horrendous. I can’t entertain him.
9. Campione D’Italia: I’d say he was blessed to win the Skyline. He looks a nice horse, but I can find real holes in him and I do think he’s going to be much better suited over further on a bigger track.
10. Hidrix: He had every chance in the Todman and was weak late. Maps to do no work but I have others ahead of him.
11. Incognito: Could have had him as a knockout hope, but the gate…he’s going to have go back to near last and spot them too much head start.
12. Streisand: Hard to knock her given she has done little wrong in her career to date and was a strong winner of the Blue Diamond. Every chance she lands in a good spot despite drawing wide…she’s in the mix.
13. Spicy Miss: Loved the way she knuckled down to win the Sweet Embrace but just not sold on that being a strong form reference, and not sold on her at 1200m.
14. Chayan: The Reisling win was arrogant. Gave them a start, gave them a beating, and ran time without being fully extended by J Mac. Should get a decent trail from the draw and be hard to hold out.
15. Shiki: Plain in the Silver Slipper, she’s not up to these.
16. Pembrey: Pretty good win in the Magic Night but did she beat much? No. And on speed was no disadvantage. Not with her here.

2026 Golden Slipper Speed Map
Music Time looks like he will get to the fence first. From there, I think he opts for cover. Plenty of speed drawn wide. Streisand, Warwoven, Closer To Free, Paradoxium and Pembrey will all look to push forward and settle handy, so I suspect a good solid tempo.
