Rosehill’s Golden Slipper (1200m) is one of Australia’s most prestigious races, and the 2025 event this Saturday is set to deliver a thrilling showdown. Explore our in-depth runner-by-runner analysis of the contenders in this year’s Golden Slipper field.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Golden Slipper.
2025 Golden Slipper Runner Preview:
1. Rivellino: Gave them a start and a beating to win quite impressively in the Skyline, with Skyhook franking that form in spades via the Pago Pago. Kind map in his corner, he get Hugh Bowman, 1200m, I think, is fine…leading contender.
2. Devil Knight: Had the right run in transit and finished best, just, to win the Blue Diamond, which at the time looked crap as a form race, but Tentyris spanked them in the Todman. He’ll press forward and run well.
3. North England: North England is the likely leader and will take a power of beating I say. I thought he was massive in the Todman, leading and copping heat. He was entitled to knock right up but he only got the stitch very late in the piece. He’ll take a stack of improvement from that and on a firm Rosehill deck, he’ll look the winner for a fair chunk of the race.
4. Tycoon Star: Been up a little while but hard to knock him. Brave effort in the Todman after covering ground, which followed the run of the race in defeat in the Blue Diamond. He’ll lob in a beaut spot in transit and for mine is a definite winning chance.
5. West Of Swindon: I think he’s a nice horse, but just not sure about him at a strong 1200m at this level and that Silver Slipper form looks very suspect. He maps ideally but I am keen to oppose him.
6. Beiwacht: Dominant winner of the Silver Slipper before a total forgive in the Todman when wide no cover on speed and tired late. I can’t see him bouncing back from that potential gutbuster.
7. Skyhook: Skyhook has to come right into play as a key chance off the back of his win in the Pago Pago last Saturday. He led throughout and got front end control before being asked for the big effort and away he went to win and win quite impressively. Stable is flying with their juveniles, he’ll press forward and only run well I say.
8. Wodeton: If he wins, too good, but I am very keen to take him on. He had every possible chance in the Todman and was very weak late. Either Waller had him very fresh, with improvement to come, or the horse is limited. I am leaning towards the latter and yes, gets J Mac, a kind map…but I can’t have him.
9. King Of Pop: He would almost be on top if he drew a gate because he smashed the clock in the Black Opal. But, the gate means he’ll be back near last and will need a 20/10 ride from Zac. Happy to just watch.
10. Quietly Arrogant: Thought he was good late in the Skyline when a close up third to Rivellino. Stable/rider knows what it takes to win a Golden Slipper, he’s been set for the race, strong late…knockout hope.
11. Farcited: Attempted to lead throughout in the Black Opal and gave a strong kick from the front but was nabbed late by King Of Pop. Good racing style, but the wide gate does makes things quite tricky.
12. Within The Law: Hard to knock her and what she has done in her short career to date. Gave them a start and a beating to win the Sweet Embrace, producing a briliiant finale. She’ll sit off the speed again, be strong late, and Bjorn Baker training…has to be respected.
13.Tempted: Gee there was a lot of quality and arrogance in her Reisling win. Gave them a start and a beating to win impressively. Lands in a plum spot, B Shinn on, she is one of the leading contenders.
14. Bellazaine: Bellazaine is three weeks between runs for GaiBott since contesting the Sweet Embrace when leading and giving a strong kick from the front but was nabbed late by Within The Law. She is another speed influence here but I dare say will opt for cover from North England. Tick over trial was good and she’ll give an almighty sight.
15. Military Tycoon: Lot of quality about her win first up at Flemington and think she is a nice horse…but this looks a bridge too far.
16. Marhoona: She was near the speed in the Reisling and tried hard but was no match late for Tempted. She has a bit of ticker about her and with that 1200m run under the belt, she is one of the leading contenders.
17. Alabama Magic (First Emergency): scratched
18. Nepotism (Second Emergency): scratched

2025 Golden Slipper Speed Map
The GaiBott pair of North England and Bellazaine are the two main speed influences, with the former the likely leader. Skyhood was on speed in the Pago Pago and with the gate, can press forward. Farcited for GaiBott will likely force the issue as well from the wide draw.
