There was some very good racing right across Australia this Saturday, with the highlight clearly being Musica Magnate and his brilliant win in the Doomben 10000 (1350m). Who got the pass marks? Find out down below:
Race Five Number 7 Oxford Poet (2nd):
I thought his effort was very good in defeat. He was first up, leading and pulling hard in the run. Had every right to drop out but he fought on very strongly and probably would have won in another couple of strides. There are wins this prep for him.
Race Three Number 8 Ghisoni (1st):
The time says it all when you compare it to Music Magnate and what he produced. This is a high class filly who will give them an almighty shake in the Stradbroke if they do head that way. This was an amazing win in regards to the time and how easily she did it.
Race Five Number 12 Candika (4th):
Looks the one to follow from a J J Atkins perspective. Got back on a day where it was hard to make ground, but once she got clear, she really attacked the line. Since the Summer, her aim has been the Group l and she is ticking over beautifully for it.
Race Eight Number 8 Eagle Way (2nd):
My Derby pick. He was outstanding in defeat, similar to the run of Candika. Probably wins in another two strides, and I am really looking forward to seeing him up in trip and onto a bigger track.
Race Eight Number 2 Spy Decoder (10th):
Dear punters, stop backing this horse. He is a milk drinker.
Race Seven Number 1 Delectation (4th):
Given the way the race was run, I thought he had his chance to finish it off. Just couldn’t sprint with them, and I think we know now that anything beyond 1200m is not his go.
Sandown Race Nine Number 7 Spreadeagled (1st)- Dwayne Dunn:
Brilliant, brilliant ride. Got the horse out quickly from the gates before realising there was too much speed underneath. Dragged back, got onto the back of the fav Show A Star and from there is was painless to watch if you were on. Horse did a good job, but the ride was a major factor.
Morphettville Parks Race Eight Number 15 Tapestry Vision- Josh Cartwright:
Three wide no cover from gate two…makes sense.
