A small but select field has been assembled for the Echuca Cup (1400m) this afternoon in what looks an intriguing contest.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 Echuca Cup.
2025 Echuca Cup Runner Preview:
1. Modown: He is quite clearly the best horse in the race…just a matter of his fitness levels. Fresh at 1400m, to me, says the horse is fit. Watch betting and see what it does.
2. Flash Flood: SCR
3. Pascero: He looks a massive price here for mine. Luckless at Flemington last time behind Is It Me, who spanked them yesterday in the Shaftesbury Avenue. He lands in a plum spot from the draw and should be effective late. Great each way gamble.
4. He’s Our Bonneval: He’s Our Bonneval should love the rise to 1400m after resuming over 1200m a few weeks ago down the straight here when back in the run and held up at times, he found the line with purpose behind Bossy Nic. Good second up record and rising in trip, he takes a power of beating.
5. Rhinoceros: Racing very well this horse. But, 2000m back to 1400m is a big, big query for mine and just don’t think he has the change up speed to threaten.
6. Lounge Bar Rubi: Contested the Is It Me race mentioned above where he just got too far back in the run and although he made up headway, he was never a factor. If he gets back again in a slowly run race, I doubt he can threaten.
7. Capper Thirtynine: Hard to beat on paper…but is he too short? Looked to have every chance last time at Flemington over 1400m but was nabbed late by Enxuto. Gets run of the race, hard fit and racing well, can win clearly…but $1.60? Not for me.
8. Prince Eric: Nice horse for Archie Alexander that resumes. His recent jumpout was encouraging, and potentially could get the front comfortably. But just not sure 1400m is his go. May want a touch further.
9. Red Phantom: Didn’t do a bad job at The Valley last time over 1200m and is suited up to 1400m but just think he lacks the class.
10. Game Theory: He barely measures up in 58 grade.
2025 Echuca Cup $100 Betting Strategy:
$20 Win/$80 Place Pascero for me.
2025 Echuca Cup Speed Map
It looks a race void of early speed. Prince Eric could slide forward and potentially get front end control, but first up, do they opt for a sit? Capper Thirtynine should lob into a beaut spot from the inside gate, likewise Rhinceros despite him being 2000m back to 1400m.
