The first of the Group l races at Flemington this Saturday is the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m), one of the great stallion making races.

2025 Coolmore Stud Stakes Runner Preview:
1. Beiwacht: We have seen it a couple of times with Waller runners. They produce this out of this world number to win a big race and they get nowhere near it ie Verry Elleegant in the 2021 Cup and Via Sistina in the Cox Plate last year. Does Beiwacht need to get to that number? No. He is going to regress but how much? Fascinating runner. But a key runner.
2. McGaw: I think he is a total forgive from Caulfield. Yes, he was plain to the eye, but he was up against the fence, which was quicksand, and he was way too keen in front. Off his Danehill effort, he can threaten at a big price.
3. Tentyris: Tentyris has been set for the race and looks cherry ripe after his Gothic triumph two weeks ago at Caulfield. He looked in a hopeless spot 400m out but Zahra was able to weave his magic and in a driving go, finished best. He’ll eat up a hard 1200m and be strong late.
4. Tycoon Star: Nice horse but just not up to these.
5. Skyhook: Skyhook is a very good colt for Ryan/Alexiou and i think he’ll run a beauty here. He has been freshened up since the Golden Rose where he was ridden forward, chasing the strong speed, and tried hard, but just felt the pinch late. Freshened up, moved well late in a jumpout here last week, I think he’ll only run well.
6. Hidden Motive: Hidden Motive has earned a crack here after his Roman Consul triumph. He got on speed favours but credit to him, he was there to be beaten but he found under pressure to fend them off. He’ll be out of trouble near the front and giving an almighty sight.
7. Raging Force: Can understand why they are having a crack at this given he is a colt but for mine, 1200m at this level is too much for him.
8. Jimmy Recard: Out of sight out of mind? He has the engine under the hood to run really well against these and he has been kept on the fresh side, with tick over jumpout work being quite good. A win wouldn’t shock.
9. Legacy Bound: Nice horse but for mine, he’s not up to these.
10. Beadman: Does he need a wet track? His two big efforts/wins have come when getting his toe in. Somewhat unlucky in the Roman Consul but I thought he was out in time. The jumpout here last week, IMO, wasn’t as good as what same made it out to be.
11. Skyglider: He’s very, very dangerous this guy. There was quality about his Brian Crowley win last Saturday and this isn’t the norm for Waller to back up a horse seven days after a resumption, especially into a Group l. He has to be respected.
12. My Gladiola: Hard to knock the way she is racing but I just don’t quite think she is good enough to take this out.
