The feature race at Rosehill this Saturday is the Group l Coolmore Classic (1500m), with a high quality bunch of fillies and mares set down to clash on what should be testing conditions.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2022 Coolmore Classic.

2022 Coolmore Classic Runner Preview
1. Krone: Won this race last year on a firm deck and gets conditions to suit this year given she prefers wet ground. Millie Fox run was solid enough and should get a soft run from the gate. She’s in with a shout.
2. Polly Grey: She’s the one I can entertain at a big price. She won’t know herself with this sort of weight. Far from disgraced last Saturday, she should get a soft run from the gate and will be strong late I feel. $41+ for her is silly.
3. Vangelic: Battled on pretty well fresh in the Guy Walter, but I just question how much work she will have to do to cross from the wide gate, and is potentially on the radar for the All Star Mile, so not sure 100% sure she runs. Even if she does, I’m inclined to risk her.
4. Lighthouse: Ripping mare who has done nothing wrong since arriving from America. Ran gamely in defeat last Saturday in the Canterbury Stakes. My query with her is 1500m. I reckon 1400m sees her right out so 1500m here, I think at the price, I’m taking her on.
5. Shout The Bar: Resumed in the Guy Walter and she failed to fire a shot in a pretty plain effort. Can’t see her troubling this lot off that sort of effort.
6. Expat: Expat can only run well. She’s a ripper for Mark Newnham that led throughout to win the Millie Fox off a freshen up. She was there to be run down from the front but found plenty under pressure and was strong late in winning. Loves wet ground, rolls on speed, fitter, upside…she’ll look the winner for a fair chunk.
7. Wandabaa: She’s the swimmer of the field on the back up after winning the Newcastle Newmarket on Friday. That was 1400m and she just got there, so 1500m here has to be a query. On that fact, I think she has to be opposed.
8. Hinged: Hinged comes to this as a last start Group l winner, so that alone gives her respect against these. Peach steer from Avdulla saw her win the Surround. What I liked was the way she dug in late. Startantes was there to beat her but Avdulla lifted her late and she just got the win. She’s right in the mix.
9. Atishu: Reared as the gates opened fresh in the Liverpool Cup and took no competitive part. Her best is good enough to threaten but with these mares, once they have a bee in their bonnet, it sticks. Happy just to watch her.
10. Le Lude: SCR
11. Mirra Vision: If this was a dry deck, she would be in the mix. But there is enough evidence to suggest that heavy ground is not her go so with that in mind, she’s not in my top four.
12. Promise Of Success: She’s right in the market but is also accepted for Flemington. I think given she’s high up in betting for this Group l, they run here. Her two runs back have been excellent and should have gone close in the Guy Walter but was given an ordinary steer. Hard to beat.
13: Kiku: SCR
14. Yes Baby Yes: Good late when resuming at Launceston but she’s a dry track horse and she clearly won’t get that here, so looking elsewhere.
15. Espiona: Espiona…is this D-Day for her? Is she a contender, or is she a pretender? I think she’s racing really well. Just nabbed fresh in the Light Fingers by Fangirl. Then went to the Surround where she was ridden like it was a barrier trial, spotting them way too much head start. Down in the weights and hard fit now, she gets her chance for the Group l success.
16. Fangirl: SCR
17 Cap Estel: Similar to the horse mentioned above. Not good enough here, but I think is on track for a race like the Kembla Grange Classic.
2022 Coolmore Classic $100 Betting Strategy:
I’m keeping it simple. Two $25 each way bets, first with Expat, the map horse who swims and is in form, the other bet being Espiona, who could blow these away if she brings her best.
Group l Strategy Outlay: $4070
Group l Strategy Return: $9330.6
