Group 1 racing moves to Rosehill this Saturday with the running of the Coolmore Classic over 1500 metres. I AM SERIOUS ($5.50) is the current favourite in what looks to be a very open race. We chatted with Palmerbet CEO Grant Palmer to get his views on the race and to see who he thinks will win
Have there been any betting moves for the Coolmore Classic?
What an open race, with each way odds the field! I AM SERIOUS ($5.5) and wet tracker JAMAICAN RAIN ($9.5) have been solidly supported throughout betting while FIESTA ($16 – $13) and the lightly weighted MOSS TRIP ($16 – $11) have been well found at odds. It is one of those races that if you like something, don’t be scared off by the price. There is plenty of value around.
How do you think the race will be run?
The speed will be on early which should set the race up for a run on style of horse. I expect there will be some hard luck stories on Saturday night as some horses will get caught wide and cover ground while those in the back half close strongly.
Who are you tipping?
I expect horses to run on strongly from the rear and get past those who have been sitting up on the pace. I AM SERIOUS ran well when narrowly missing in the Millie Fox Stakes first up and looks primed for Saturday. If James McDonald can get some cover from the bad gate the consistent mare should finish too strongly for her rivals and be hard to hold out. JAMAICAN RAIN is looking to make it 5 wins from his last 6 starts and looks bullet proof. He should not be far away. MOSS TRIP will get back in the run and with the lightweight; he could be the knockout horse.
