Randwick Overview:
The 1100-1550 set up isn’t ideal for Flying Legend, but I think with the solid 1200m under the belt, it’s not as bad. He resumed over the 1100m here and was a bit flat footed when the sprint went on but was sound late behind Trope, a horse I know Team Hawkes and Tommy Berry have an opinion of. Like Classique Legend recently, McEvoy went out to Hawkesbury for the one trial, this bloke, led all the way and was sharp. If he can land near the speed without spending too many petrol tickets, he’ll take some beating. I like Lubuk as a horse. He had two runs in Queensland to start his career and he looked very raw/new to the caper but ran well, the last run being a second to Exhilarates at the Gold Coast. Loved the way he looked in a recent trial and J Mac booked is a good lead. Really surprised that $8 went up about Tarbert in the seventh and rightfully has been backed in. As it sits right now, he’s the in form horse on the Mid North Coast and likely goes to the Grafton Country Championships Qualifier next Sunday. He went up big time in weight last time at Coffs but he absolutely bolted in, winning by seven and it really could have been further had Looker got fair dinkum. Good test at this level, but shocked if he didn’t measure up.

Mackay Overview:
Can deal me out of Taxi in the second. Beaten odds on pop in a weak race at Warrnambool. I think the bet is the local, Queen Guinevere, who has had two runs back from a spell, both on the home track at Bendigo over 1300m. Each time she has got a mile out of her ground and finished off with real purpose in eye catching efforts. Remaining at 1300m probably beat her last start so up to 1500m looks idea and love the booking of Luke Currie. $1.90 seems a reasonable enough price for Jumbo Ozaki. He can go through his grades quickly IMO. The debut win at Pakenham was outstanding, visually and on the clock for him in isolation, with his late splits being very good without really being asked for a major effort. The old adage is hard to go to 64 from a maiden straight away, but stats would suggest it isn’t as hard as what it’s normally made out to be. He can put these away and go to town.
