A small but select field has been assembled for the All Star Mile (1600m) this Saturday at Flemington in what will be the first running at Group l level.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2025 All Star Mile.
2025 All Star Mile Runner Preview:
1. Mr Brightside: Mr Brightside does seem the most obvious. He just got there two weeks ago in the Futurity, getting the positive ride from Williams and despite being out of petrol tickets late, he had enough in hand to score. Love him up in trip and I think with a bunny to chase, he will be much better off.
2. Tom Kitten: Yes, he should have won the Futurity. But Devil’s Advocate; He bludged out the back, on the fence and did no work, getting clear air the final stages of the race and savaged the line to just miss. He will get a good run in transit, can win…but gee he seems short.
3. Light Infantry Man: I am a bit surprised he is the price he is. It wasn’t much of a Northerly Stakes he won and was similar to Tom Kitten from the Futurity. Bludged out the back and flashed late. Do they give him a dig in the ribs and lob on speed? Potentially, but he’s not up to these surely.
4. Another Wil: Another Wil has to be rated as one of the hardest to beat. He has been kept on ice since the CF Orr where he got 12/10 steer by Jamie Melham and in a driving go, he finished best to wear down Mr Brightside. Tick over jumpout was quite good, he loves Flemington…only runs well.
5. Flying Trapeze: Good luck to connections getting a run in the All Star Mile, but he’ll be running last.
6. Rise At Dawn: He is an absolute beauty…potentially could be Mr Brightside 2.0. But, this is completely different gravy to what he has been racing against. The saving grace is that he likely gets front end control and is very genuine.
7. Atishu: Atishu has eyes on the Australian Cup but she is a big time performer at the mile. She resumed three weeks back in the Apollo where it was basically a barrier trial for her and she worked to the line well enough in defeat. Fitter and up in trip…doubt she wins but only runs well.

Rise At Dawn, I think, will cross Another Wil and lead. The query is what does Mr Brightside do. That will depend on what they do with Light Infantry Man. If they give that horse a dig in the ribs, they lob 1/1 on Mr B. If Light Infantry Man is dragged back, then Mr B is outside and the Hayes pair control the race.
