Victorian filly Mosheen has posted the fourth Group One win of her career with a frontrunning victory in the Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Assuming control of the $400,000 race soon after the start, Mosheen opened up a commanding lead into the straight before holding on to beat Streama.

Mosheen, the $1.60 favourite, and Streama ($2.90) cleared out from the rest of the field with the winning margin a diminishing half-length.

Outsider Aliyana Tilde ($91) finished third, 2-3/4 lengths further back.

A three-year-old filly by Fastnet Rock, Mosheen’s previous Group One triumphs were the VRC Oaks, Australian Guineas and Randwick Guineas.

Jockey Dan Nikolic said Mosheen could now continue her autumn campaign in either the Australian Derby or Australian Oaks.

“She’s turned into the complete package,” Nikolic said.

“Looking at the way she has come back now I’ll be advising (trainer) Robert (Smerdon) and the owners that if she licks out (her feed bin) tonight (she should be) going around in the Oaks or the Derby.

“She’s just a beautiful beast to work with.”

Nikolic said he was mindful of giving Mosheen the easiest possible time once she had established a winning lead.

“I was fortunate to have it pretty easy mid-race and it was just a matter of how far and I eased her down so hopefully she could come through this race well,” he said.

Smerdon, however, refused to commit Mosheen to another autumn start.

“The option is the Oaks but we’re going to take it run by run,” he said.

“We’d like to think there is a bigger picture with her. There’s life beyond her three-year-old career in the spring in Melbourne.”
