The Blue Diamond Stakes, a 1200m Group 1 race for two-year-olds, will likely see a full field chasing the $2 million prize. Race favourite Field Of Play has been a confirmed runner in the race after connections paid the late $55,000 entry fee for the gelding. On the other hand, Shining Smile is expected to miss the race, as connections have decided not to accept after his deadheat in the Talindert Stakes yesterday.
The Widden Stakes Quinella, consisting of The Playwright and Tempted, has both horses making their way to Melbourne for the big event, with Craig Williams set to ride James Cummings-trained Tempted. Anthony and Sam Freedman may also back up Tentyris, who shared a deadheat in yesterday’s Talindert Stakes. Damian Lane is expected to take the ride. Meanwhile, fillies Inkaruna and Price Tag are 50/50 as they may be saved for future events.
Field Of Play has come into outright favouritism for the Blue Diamond Stakes after he was paid up for the race but online betting sites have it as a wide open affair with the T Busuttin & N Young trained galloper heading the market at $6.
