Exciting European colt A Boy Named Susie will remain with trainer Donnacha O’Brien after strong international interest, including from Australia, failed to result in a sale.
Ciaron Maher Racing had been in negotiations to purchase the talented three-year-old in a deal understood to be worth several million dollars, but O’Brien confirmed no agreement had been reached.
“He hasn’t been sold,” O’Brien told the Racing Post.
“There’s been plenty of interest in him since the Eclipse and there have been discussions with various parties, but no deal has been done.
“We’ve decided to hold on to him for now and we have some big plans for him at the end of the year such as the Breeders’ Cup, the Cox Plate and the Irish Champion Stakes.”
A Boy Named Susie has won once from his career starts but significantly enhanced his reputation when finishing runner-up to Constitution River in the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse at Sandown earlier this month.
The colt is currently an $11 chance for the Cox Plate with leading betting apps Australia, with connections now weighing up an ambitious international campaign that could also include the Breeders’ Cup and Irish Champion Stakes.
