Agent Zero gave leading syndicators Dean and Adam Watt of Dynamic Syndications their 999th winner when he took out the PF Civil Handicap (1800m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
But Dynamic’s Adam Watt was lukewarm on backing up with Agent Zero in next Saturday’s Group 1 $1 million Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm.
“We haven’t nominated Agent Zero for the Derby, I think this is his about right trip anyway and he has just won a $160,000 race,” Adam Watt said.
Dean Watt told Racing And Sports he will put it to an owners vote to decide if they want to pay the $25,000 late entry to run in the Queensland Derby.
Dynamic Syndications now needs just one more win to bring up the magical 1000-win milestone since the syndication business was formed in 2005.
The Ciaron Maher -trained Agent Zero was Dynamic’s 48th win for the 2025/26 season and is the syndicator’s 339thindividual winner of 999.
Champion jockey Nash Rawiller drove Agent Zero ($8) to a long neck win over the fillies Angel City ($16) and Sunsprite ($4.80) who had only a short half head separating them.
Donatello, the $3.30 favourite, was inconvenienced by the slow early tempo but still rallied late to be beaten less than a length into fifth.
While connections of Agent Zero are deciding if they press onto the Derby, the trainers of Angel City and Sunsprite have classic ambitions for their fillies.
Angel City and Sunsprite weren’t suited by the slow early speed but both fillies ran on powerfully to put themselves into contention for the Group 1 $700,000 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm on June 6.
Matthew Smith, trainer of Angel City, hopes the $29,200 the filly earned for second placing that takes her career earnings to nearly $130,000 is enough to get into the field for the Oaks.
“Angel City’s run was really good and I hope that gets her into the Oaks now,” Smith said. “She won’t have any trouble running 2200m.”
Annabel Archibald, trainer of Sunsprite, is sweating on her filly securing an Oaks starts as the $14,000 she earned for finishing third takes her career prizemoney to nearly $75,000.
“The pace was very slow which didn’t help Sunsprite so she has done so well to finish third,” Archibald said.”They are only three-year-olds once and I’m hoping she can gain a start in the Oaks.”
