Taree trainer Glen Milligan has been suspended for two months, with a further two months held over, following a Racing NSW stewards’ inquiry into a series of social media posts.
The inquiry found that Milligan had published Facebook posts across several days containing what stewards described as “improper comments that were prejudicial to the image, interests, integrity and welfare of racing, including unsubstantiated allegations of a cover-up, abusive and derogatory remarks directed towards racing participants, and offensive commentary published on social media.”
Milligan admitted responsibility for the posts and was issued four charges under AR228(a) along with one charge under AR228(b).
Stewards conducted a hearing on Monday to determine the outcome, taking into account his remorse, along with personal and professional circumstances, before issuing their penalty.
The total penalty amounted to eight months, which was reduced to four months, with an additional two months suspended on the condition he does not reoffend.
This results in a suspension period from April 27 through to June 27, with Milligan also informed of his right to appeal the decision.
