Members of the Overpass ownership group which is managed by Scott Darby Syndications voted on Wednesday in favour of making the trip to England.
Overpass, winner of more than $12 million prizemoney, is likely to be aimed at the Group 1 King Charles III (formerly King’s Stand) Stakes on June 16, day one of the Royal Ascot carnival.
With confirmation Overpass will be heading to England, there could be as many as six Australian-trained sprinters competing at famous Royal Ascot – Joliestar, Generosity, Lady Of Camelot, Charm Stone and Asfoora.
Trainer Chris Waller has indicated five-time Group 1 winner Joliestar will be aimed at the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Stakes (1200m) on the final day of the five-day Royal Ascot carnival, June 20.
Stablemate Generosity will be set for the King Charles III Stakes on the opening day provided she races up to expectations in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville next week.
Waller is chasing a second win in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot after Nature Strip’s famous effort in 2022.
Trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott haven’t ruled out starting Lady Of Camelot in both feature Royal Ascot sprints provided the 2024 Golden Slipper winner races well in two scheduled Brisbane carnival comeback starts next month.
Charm Stone, a dual Group 1 winner, will take on Joliestar at Royal Ascot as long as she also runs well in the Robert Sangster Stakes.
Henry Dwyer’s Asfoora won the King Charles III Stakes two years ago then returned in 2025 and after finishing unplaced at Royal Ascot she trained on to win the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York and the Group 1 Prix de L’Abbaye at Longchamp in France.
Dwyer left Asfoora in England over the northern hemisphere winter to prepare her specifically for a third Royal Ascot campaign.
