A jump-out down the Flemington straight has trainer Peter Snowden confident of a forward showing in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington.

If there happened to be a drop of rain before the Victoria Derby Day meeting at Flemington, trainer Peter Snowden would not be concerned.

Snowden has Beadman aimed at the stallion making race, the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Beadman is one of 15 nominations for the for the three-year-old sprint and the son of Snitzel got his first look down the Flemington straight in a jump-out last Friday.

The colt finished second behind Balastier, who ran along in front, and Snowden said Beadman was not out to win the jump-out, just to have a good look at the track which will be something new on Saturday under race conditions for the Sydneysider.

“He seemed focused and jumped out nicely,” Snowden said.

“We weren’t worried about anything else. We were just trialling the horse. We held him up early and in the last 300 metres let him work to the line and he was really good.

“He got a tick from me watching him.”

Beadman has won two of his five starts and stamped his credentials at the Gold Coast in May when he won the Group 3 Ken Russell Stakes (1200m) by a stunning 8-¼ lengths.

That victory came on heavy ground, and the colt was immediately put away to concentrate on being at peak fitness for the Coolmore on Saturday.

First-up, Beadman finished third to Mahroona over 1100m at Rosehill on September 27 before finishing second in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on October 11 behind Hidden Motive, a likely opponent on Saturday.

Both those Sydney assignments came on good ground.

“He’s a smart horse,” Snowden said of Beadman.

“Everything I’ve done with him, he’s done easily. He’s still very raw, still learning his craft, but he’s very, very talented and this is what we’ve set him for, the whole way through.

“It didn’t faze him at all being down the straight, I didn’t think it would, but it’s always handy to have a look down the straight before they race.

“I hope he puts on a good show for everyone as I do believe he’s a smart horse.”

Beadman arrived in Melbourne last week and Snowden said the colt had settled in well to his new home at Flemington and will be ridden by Blake Shinn who was aboard in Friday’s jump-out.

Joining Beadman in the nominations for the Coolmore on Saturday is last start Golden Rose winner Beiwacht, Blue Diamond Stakes winner Devil Night, Hidden Motive and Tentyris while My Gladiola headlines the three fillies entered for the race.
