2025 Memsie Stakes Runner Preview:

1. Mr Brightside: Mr Brightside has far too many credits in the bank to pen off one poor run and a seemingly poor jumpout. The latest jumpout win has been well discussed and some are penning him off it. It can go either way. He is indeed cast and done. Or, which I am leaning, is that the stable cuddled him after Hong Kong and he needed a good hitout before his return. I think he’ll run a beauty.

2. Tom Kitten: Tom Kitten looks to be humming for Team Freedman. He resumes, having not raced since the Queen Elizabeth where he ran out of his skin when third to star mare Via Sistina. The boy turned into a man last prep and his trial work to get ready has been excellent.

3. Antino: Looked all over a winner in the Vain Stakes but wanted to duck in under pressure and threw the race away. If he does everything right, he can win…but rather see him do it than back him to do it.

4. Here To Shock: I think he is a knockout chance because he is a 1400m specialist and gets front end control according to the speed map. Game effort in the PB Lawrence and will give a stack of cheek.

5. Buckaroo: Has eyes on the Cups so I think this will be a spin around.

6. Another Wil: D Day for him in terms of being a proper G1 horse. Luckless in the All Star Mile but I did think he had his chance in the Doncaster. Trialled well for the return, maps to stalk the speed…he can win, clearly, but for mine, is too short.

7. Pinstriped: He has to be worth a speck each way. The PB Lawrence was a complete barrier trial and given he was back/wide, he was just never going to get involved. Similar set up this time around, but if he can get a drag into the race, I think he’s going well enough to threaten.

8. Is It Me: Thought he was massive in the Behemoth when wide no cover and although flat footed, he picked up and was really good late in the piece. Maps perfect and rising to 1400m…I think he’s better suited at Flemington, but he looks a massive price.

9. Fangirl: I am quite keen to take her on and the market says as much. She has looked quite good in trials on wet ground, which is a tick for her because she generally hates getting her feet wet. But I just think there is a new brigade of WFA horses that are catching up to her.

10. Zardozi: SCR

11. Treasurethe Moment: Treasurethe Moment…is there such thing as trialling too good? Maybe. But my goodness she is jumping out like an absolute rocket for the return. This WFA crop, as a whole, are even, especially in Melbourne…the title is there to be taken and this girl could well be the one to claim it. Very keen to see her return.

2025 Memsie Stakes $100 Betting Strategy:

$10 Win/$50 Place Mr Brightside Tote/SP
$20 Win Treasurethe Moment Tote/SP
$5 Win/$15 Place Pinstriped Tote/SP

Group l Strategy Outlay: $100
Group l Strategy Return: $150

I can’t see much early pressure here. Treasurethe Moment is drawn inside and first up, but if she gets a dig in the ribs, she could well lead. At worst, she’ll box seat behind Here To Shock. I think Mr Brightside gets the perfect drag across and sits outside, with Another Wil potentially landing 1/1.
