A solid field has been assembled for the Brisbane Cup (3200m) this Saturday at Eagle Farm where in form stayer Campaldino is a clear favourite.

2025 Brisbane Cup Runner Preview:
1. Alegron: I can make a case for Alegron at a price. She ran in the QEll Cup and the shifty track just wasn’t to his liking at all, but the last 100m and through the line, he was really good. He’ll love firmer footing, two miles, and has upside compared to most.
2. Nikau Spur: Not entirely sold on him at two miles but he is a beauty for Team Geran and was good late in the QEll Cup. Nash is on, he should get a suck run…must for exotics.
3. Etna Rosso: I am keen to oppose him at the price. Yes, he kept finding the line in the QEll Cup, but he was safely held by the favourite and IMO has to be a big query at 3200m, even with J Mac riding.
4. Campaldino: He is flying for GaiBott. There to be beaten in the QEll Cup but he found under pressure to fend them off and was quite strong in the run to the line. He should lead for fun and gives every indication of being fine at 3200m.
5. Star Vega: Thought he was on track earlier this prep but his last couple of runs tell me he is cast.
6. True Marvel: He has the 3200m lead in under the belt, via the Sandown Cup where he was a closing fourth. Can I back him to win? No, but he is a must for exotics.
7. Manzoice: Manzoice should have no issue with two miles. He ran in the QEll Cup a fortnight back when too far out of his ground and while he was never a winning threat he kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat I thought. He should be fine at 3200m and his best is clearly good enough.
8. Strathtay: He wasn’t suited by the wet track in the QEll Cup but even allowing for that, he was very plain. Not for me.
9. Mr Waterville: Mr Waterville hasn’t won in forever but he will stay the trip no issue IMO. He ran two weeks back in the QEll Cup where he got too far back but did make up headway and was good I thought with the two miles in mind. Not sure he wins but can run top four.
10. Dillian: Bad ride in the QEll Cup but he didn’t exactly savage the line. I think he’s a nice stayer but not at this level.
11. So Dazzling: I don’t think she will have any issue running 3200m but just lacks the class.

Two mile race here so not exactly a race where they’ll break speed records, but the leader does look to be Campaldino, and comfortbaly. True Marvel, I think, holds a forward spot from the inside gate, likewise Manzoice. Outside that, I can’t anything going forward.
