Global sprinting sensation Ka Ying Rising has officially secured a slot in the prestigious Group 1 $20 million The Everest, reinforcing Sydney’s status as the international hub for elite racing talent.
The world’s highest-rated sprinter will represent the Hong Kong Jockey Club in this year’s Everest after the organisation reportedly reached a lease agreement for the Australian Turf Club’s coveted slot.
This arrangement highlights the strong ties between the HKJC and ATC, with The Everest included as a key feature in the World Pool betting platform managed by HKJC. The inclusion of Ka Ying Rising ensures the global star will headline the Sydney spring racing carnival.
Negotiations are also underway between ATC and HKJC to broaden the World Pool’s footprint across additional major Sydney events, potentially adding iconic races such as the Golden Slipper to the betting portfolio.
Details of the finalised slot agreement are expected to be released soon, solidifying Ka Ying Rising’s place in the Royal Randwick sprint showpiece.
Hall of Fame trainer David Hayes has long anticipated Ka Ying Rising’s Everest invitation and is already formulating a two-race Sydney spring plan for the elite galloper.
“I’ve had stables at Randwick before and always enjoyed a positive relationship with the ATC, so I’m really pleased the Hong Kong Jockey Club appears to have reached an agreement,” Hayes said.
“Now we can put all our energy into preparing Ka Ying Rising for The Everest.”
Hayes also revealed discussions with James Ross—former ATC executive and now part of the HKJC—regarding Ka Ying Rising’s quarantine and training arrangements at Canterbury Park.
“It will be my first time stabling a horse at Canterbury, but seeing how successful other international runners have been from there, I’m confident it will work well for Ka Ying Rising,” Hayes added.
