Trainer Chris Waller is hoping for a smoother path for Joliestar as she builds towards a Group 1 assignment during the Brisbane winter carnival, following a disrupted preparation due to Sydney’s wet weather.
The four-year-old mare was due to trial at Canterbury on Tuesday, but the session was abandoned due to heavy rain. As a result, Joliestar will now trial at Rosehill on Friday in her final tune-up for the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup at Eagle Farm on May 31.
Joliestar has emerged as an early favourite for the $1 million weight-for-age feature over 1300m, having last been seen finishing a close second to Jimmysstar in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick on April 19.
She previously captured the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington in March, underlining her credentials heading into the Brisbane carnival.
The Kingsford Smith will serve as a key lead-up to the Stradbroke Handicap, where Joliestar is currently rated a $6 early market elect.
Meanwhile, stablemate Buckaroo has been ruled out of the Doomben Cup and sent to the paddock for a spell, with Waller opting to reset for spring targets.
