Vauban will join Dubai Honour in dropping back in distance for their next starts, with the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 12 as his next target.
Co-trainer Adrian Bott confirmed on Thursday that the $5 million race is next for Vauban, leaving the door open for a potential Brisbane campaign.
“We are going to give him another run, so we’ll see him line up in the Queen Elizabeth and then we’ll make a decision from there,” Bott told racing.com.
“We’re delighted with him and the way he continues to progress and take shape here in Australia.”
Vauban won the G3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) before finishing third at the rescheduled Tancred meeting on Tuesday.
Connections are skipping the Sydney Cup in favour of targeting the 2025 Melbourne Cup in November.
Bookmakers have Vauban as a $21 chance, trailing Dubai Honour ($4.80) and Via Sistina ($1.70) in the Queen Elizabeth.
Meanwhile, Australian Bloodstock is hopeful former French mare Lastotchka will deliver a strong showing in Saturdayโs G2 Chairmanโs Quality (2600m), potentially paving the way for a Sydney Cup challenge.
