Dual Stakes-winning filly Too Darn Discreet is set to trial at Geelong on Wednesday as she builds towards a major autumn target: the G1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) in Adelaide.
The daughter of 2013 Oaks winner Maybe Discreet is scheduled to return to racing in the Listed Desirable Stakes at Flemington on February 15, with the Kewney Stakes also on her agenda.
Trainer Dan O’Sullivan confirmed the Australasian Oaks as her primary goal, noting the enthusiasm of her South Australian connections.
“Her main goal is the 2000-metre Australasian Oaks in South Australia. All the owners are from South Australia and are pretty keen to get her over there and have a look at her,” O’Sullivan said.
Too Darn Discreet, who won the G2 Edward Manifold Stakes and G3 Ethereal Stakes last spring, has returned in good order after a 30-day spell.
“She retained good fitness while she was in the paddock and she’s come to hand very well,” O’Sullivan added.
Meanwhile, stablemate Berkeley Square is also preparing for a Flemington return on February 15, with the G1 Australian Cup (2000m) on March 29 as his major target.
“He’s fantastic,” O’Sullivan said of the Ballarat Cup winner.
“Hopefully we try to get him on to the Australian Cup.”
O’Sullivan remains realistic about the challenges ahead, acknowledging the competitiveness of Group 1 races.
“They’re pretty hot races, but he’s nearly at that level so we’ll have a crack at it and see what we can do,” he said.
