Night racing returns to Canterbury this Friday. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (18:00) Inglis Xtra Bonus Mdn Plate 1550m
7 Amusing (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks the straight bat play in the opener. She has had two career outings, both at 1300m, and each time she has been quite good but has been racing like she wants more ground, which she gets here, and with good upside/improvement come, I think she’s the one to beat.
5 Omnic (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is knocking on the door to break the maiden tag. He ran second in a Newcastle maiden last time out but he might have bumped into a really good one, Rotagilla. Suspect he’ll press forward and with that, he’s quite dangerous.
1 Banxi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is progressive for Chris Waller and has good upside. He was good late on debut before going to Hawkesbury when off speed and he tried hard but just found one better. Blinkers on and up in trip, he commands respect.
Race 2. (18:30) The Agency Real Estate Mdn Plate 1250m
12 Vanessi (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) on top for me in an open race. Too Darn Hot filly for Chris Waller that resumes after a two run prep in the Winter to start her career, both runs coming over 1100m at Warwick Farm on testing ground and each time she was good but not sure she was 100% happy in the conditions. Trialled up really well for the return and has a kind map.
1 Hopper (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks like he has talent. He debuted over this track/distance two weeks ago when off the speed and kept chasing, finding the line in an encouraging debut behind Scorched Legend. Better for the run under the belt, he’s one of the leading chances.
2 Inside Man (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Lonhro on debut for Chris Waller. This guy has had two trials in readiness for start one, both trials coming at Rosehill over 900m and moved well enough to my eye in each hitout. Maps to do no work and be strong late.
Race 3. (19:00) Quayclean Mdn Hcp 1100m
3 Queen’s Rhapsody (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is short enough but she does look the one to beat. She resumed two weeks ago at this track/distance and worked home with purpose late when a close up second in a good return. Better for the run, depth not as deep, think she’s the winner.
7 Gerringong (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is the key and I dare say only threat. She debuts for GaiBott off the back of impressive trial work, the latest piece being a win over 1050m at Randwick so the grounding is there, she’ll press forward and run a bold race.
1 Hell To Pay (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a son of Hellbent for O’Shea/Charlton that resumes. This guy is first up, having not raced since July 13 when placing at Newcastle where he seemingly had his chance but was good in defeat. Trialled well enough…doubt he wins but can run top four.
Race 4. (19:30) The Agency Property Management (Bm72) 1100m
9 Leave Me Some (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks a great each way gamble at $20+. She is proven at these night meetings and comes here off the back of a 1000m run at Hawkesbury where she got a fair way out of her ground but worked home with purpose and wasn’t beaten too far. Like her up in trip, down in the weights, will do no work…just needs things to fall into place.
4 Lady Extreme (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a daughter of Extreme Choice that resumes for Blake Ryan. This girl is first up, having not raced since July 24 when a winner over 1250m here, giving them a start and a beating in an impressive performance. Trialled well for the return and should be strong late.
5 Jamais (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) creates interest her at odds. Craig Carmody trained mare that had a two run prep here in the Summer to start her career, placing on debut before a dominant on speed win and was tipped out. Given a good break, and interesting has had no public trials, so watch the market.
Race 5. (20:00) Schweppes (Bm64) 1250m
3 Fire Tribe (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) was $16+ in early betting and that price was madness. Rightfully he has been backed in and I think he’s worth a gamble at odds. He resumed over 1200m at Kembla when off the speed and kept chasing in a good return when third. Better for the run, gets Nash aboard and will be strong late. Hard to beat I say.
12 True Amor (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) comes here with fresh legs for O’Shea/Charlton, having not raced since Melbourne Cup Day when far too good for them in a maiden at Kembla, justifying the avalanche of support. Good test here jumping straight to town but he’s always looked a horse of city class ability so keen to see how he goes.
9 Miss Trustful (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Ciaron Maher trained filly that resumes after a solid 2YO season where she was tested at Stakes grade and didn’t run too bad. Has looked solid enough in trial work and maps to do no work in the run.
Race 6. (20:30) Headwater @ Vinery Stud (Bm72) 1550m
2 Like A Tiger (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is another at the meeting that does look good value to my eye. He hasn’t quite set the world on fire in two runs this prep but I will say that each time, he hasn’t really been suited. He may want another and a further rise in trip but finds a thin race, Nash on, and hopefully with a more positive ride, he will be dangerous.
4 Pier Pressure (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a Kris Lees trained mare that doesn’t win out of turn but that said, she comes here off a win when making an absolute mess of them at Scone where she looked a moral on paper and duly saluted, winning by a space. She is going to be around the mark I am sure.
1 Contributingfactor (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is an improver at odds for David Atkins. He resumed behind Direct Fire a few weeks back at Rosehill where he got too far out of his ground and while he was never threatening, he kept finding the line and was pretty good in defeat. Fitter and up in trip, his best is good enough to be dangerous.
Race 7. (21:00) Kia Evening Star (Bm78) 1250m
3 Stromboli (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has strong Saturday metro form to say he’s hard to beat against these. He ran at Rosehill last time out when near the speed and he tried hard but just lacked the finale to go with them late in the piece behind Fire Star. Back to this level, kind map, happy to be in his corner.
8 Fine Vintage (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is a speedy customer for Luke Pepper that comes to town off the back of an all the way win at Albury where he produced sustained speed from the outset and gave nothing else a look in, winning quite impressively. Tricky draw, but will press forward and take beating.
5 Conrad (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) has a kind map in his corner to run an improved race after racing in Midways recently where he has been luckless and then last start, was seemingly just fair behind Direct Fire. Has a gate to do no work in the run and his best is good enough.
Race 8. (21:30) Tab (Bm72) 1900m
4 Concello (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is dangerous with her best. She ran behind stablemate Modesty three weeks back at Rosehill where she got back to near last in the run and in a sit/sprint, she got back and was never a threat but she did make up some headway. Upside/improvement, her best is good enough to win.
7 Heaven Bound (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) looks to have returned in really good order for Blake Ryan. First run for the stable came over the mile at Kembla when leading throughout and she gapped her rivals in an impressive display. More depth here, but good racing style, good upside to come, he takes beating.
9 Cosmic Lad (Bet Now:Β $SP.00) is racing like a rise to 1900m will suit and he does have a touch of quality about him. He ran over the mile two weeks ago in the Midway at Newcastle when ridden with more intent to land on speed but it backfired, tiring to finish down the track behind Harlow Mist. Think with a more patient steer, 1900m should be okay and strikes a winnable race.
