Race 1. (12:20) Tab Highway (C3) 1400m
I’m keen to back 5 Evocator (Bet Now: $SP.00). He ran on Sunday at Tuncurry in the Country Championships Heat and his run was the best of the race IMO given he was tardy away, settling near last and was never a factor, but loved the way he found the line late. The track was a disgrace, where it was dynamite up/in, so his run was enormous. Clean jump, within range, he’ll take holding out.
12 Atmospheric Rock (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a very interesting runner. Danny Williams trained three year old that resumes, having not raced since November 19 in a Highway at Kembla when a closing second to Tap N Run after getting a fair way back in the run. One quiet trial to get ready but first up at 1400m tells me he’s ready to go and maps to get a perfect run from the gate.
Give 4 Preemptory (Bet Now: $SP.00) clear air please. I was one of a few who snapped up $18+ early for him in the Highway two weeks ago before he eventually started $8 and really, any hint of daylight and he wins the race comfortably for mine instead of a luckless eighth to Super Extreme, beaten four lengths. He’s flying this horse, love him up to 1400m and confident he goes close with a clear path.
Race 2. (12:55) Midway (Bm72) 1500m
17 Whisky Wisdom (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top in a Midway that looks thin on paper. Ben Smith has done a super job with his runners in a short space of time and this horse does have an engine under the hood. He broke the maiden tag at Kembla last time over 1400m where he gave them a start and a beating, rounding them up with ease and clocking good late splits in putting them away. He is right down to 52kg, he maps to get a good run and no doubt IMO he’ll be strong at the end.
15 Carolina Fire (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and run well. Team Curtis trained mare that ran in the Midway from two weeks ago at Randwick where she had good specking. Attempted to lead throughout and gave a good kick but couldn’t quite get there when third to Dr Evil. Like her back to 1500m and the Rosehill track suits her racing pattern much better.
13 State Of America (Bet Now: $SP.00) is down in the weights and will put himself on speed. Broke the maiden tag in style two back at Gosford before going to Kembla over 2000m where he attempted to lead throughout but couldn’t run the trip out, tiring late behind Spaltet. Like him back in trip and if he gets an economical run in transit, he can run a much improved race.
Race 3. (13:30) Acy Securities (Bm78) 1100m
15 Parisal (Bet Now: $SP.00) on top in a pretty solid race. James Cummings trained filly that resumed in a maiden on the Kenso where she led throughout and while that pattern was ideal early in that meeting, she still made a mess of them, was dominant and ran time. Right down in the weights after the claim for Lloyd and maps to get a sweet run in transit.
6 Economics (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a track/distance winner that should prove hard to beat fresh. He resumes for Annabel Neasham, having not raced since the Coolmore Stud on Derby Day where he ran a super race in defeat off a break behind In Secret. Trialled super at Warwick Farm to get ready for the return and with his racing style, he is suited to the Rosehill 1100m. Hard to beat.
3 The Poacher (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a Brad Widdup trained gelding that resumes. This four year old resumes, having not raced since a couple of dominant wins at the midweeks at Rosehill and Warwick Farm respectively. He is a gun fresh horse and his two trials to get ready have been more than encouraging. Likely has eyes on the Provincial Midway Championships but he will be strong late.
Race 4. (14:05) Silver Slipper Stakes 1100m
I do think 2 Cylinder (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a moral if he runs up to form and the trial. If J Mac was riding this, I have no doubt he would be favourite. Trialled here on Monday and went like an absolute jet in winning. Time was nothing flash, but he moved with real purpose and wasn’t sneezed at by J Mac. He’s one of two early Slipper bets for me and confident he can make a statement with a win here.
If 3 King’s Gambit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is going to be a top juvenile, he’d want to be putting this lot away. He just lacked the race fitness in the Canonbury three weeks ago and couldn’t dash when required when second to all the way winner Red Resistance, who is the best 2YO I’ve seen so far this season. Fitter, has the class/quality, he’ll take beating against this lot.
7 Mumbai Muse (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a filly with good talent. Michael Freedman trained filly that debuted in the Widden three weeks back where she was a real eye catcher from the back when third to Learning To Fly, who came out and won the Inglis Millennium last Saturday, so the form has been ticked off and with the run under the belt, she appeals.
Race 5. (14:40) Quayclean (Bm78) 1400m
1 Super Pursuit (Bet Now: $SP.00) is flying for Richard Collett and can certainly take this out. He ran here three weeks ago and given the race shape and how far back he was, he did a very good job to run on and finish as close as he did when third to Think About It, who came out and won last Saturday, so the form does read very well and if he gets a half positive ride, he can take this out.
9 I Siyou Baby (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a mare with good upside and progression. Resumed over 1300m at Randwick a fortnight back where she was run off her legs early and while she was never a threat, I liked the way she found the line late in the piece behind impressive winner Sonora. Fitter and up in trip, she maps to settle much closer and retains gun apprentice Benoit De La Sayette. Hard to beat.
Fitter and up in trip, I want to give 14 Lindermann (Bet Now: $SP.00) another chance. Chris Waller trained three year old that resumed over 1200m at Randwick two weeks ago where he just lacked the change up speed to put them away but was still pretty good in defeat when a close up fifth to Munitions. Good second up record and getting to 1400m with the run under the belt, he appeals.
Race 6. (15:20) Millie Fox Stakes 1300m
2 Mariamia (Bet Now: $SP.00) picks herself. Another example of Joe Pride improving a tried horse and that he has done with this mare. She bolted up in the Expressway three weeks ago, getting into the dream spot behind the speed before getting clear air under Clark and she just gapped her rivals in a dominant display. Only has to run up to that effort here and she’ll be taking care of them.
6 Roots (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a good fresh mare that resumes and I think can be dangerous for Chris Waller. Came of age in the Spring, winning the Inglis Bracelet on Oaks Day before a close up effort in the Summoned at Caulfield. Just a couple of soft trials to get ready, but she is unbeaten fresh and with a quiet ride, can see her sitting back and launching. A win wouldn’t shock at all.
3 Expat (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a quality mare for Mark Newnham that resumes. She was quite disappointing in the Spring I thought, failing to fire on several occasions, the latest run being down the track in The Invitation behind Promise Of Success. In saying that, she does tend to run best on the fresh side and has had a couple of solid trials under the belt to get ready. Lands on speed and will give a sight.
Race 7. (16:00) Parramatta Cup 1900m
1900m is the query with 5 Banju (Bet Now: $SP.00) but gee it’s hard to knock the way Lyle Chandler has him going. He had the A1 run in transit at Randwick last time and that, combined with the lightweight, ensured he was the one to beat and despite wanting to lay in, he was too good. He’s racing like a rise in trip will suit, he’s hard fit, in form and is very likeable in a competitive race.
2 Sacramento (Bet Now: $SP.00) has a good second up record and can be a big improver here. He resumed in the Banju race from two weeks back at Randwick where he was okay in defeat I thought given he was a stayer resuming at the mile and just needed the run but was far from disgraced. Like him up in trip and should he find the front and get some level of control, he’ll run a much improved race.
6 Parry Sound (Bet Now: $SP.00) comes back in trip but should be strong at the end. He ran in the Australia Day Cup at Warwick Farm last time where he pulled up with mild heat stress post race so forgive and forget the down the track effort behind Chalk Stream. That is the query leading into this weekend with the forecast but he has a good record at the track and maps to do no work.
Race 8. (16:40) Hobartville Stakes 1400m
I’m not jumping up and down about him like some but 3 Aft Cabin (Bet Now: $SP.00) does look the one to beat. He had the A1 run in transit when resuming in the Eskimo Prince and the race was over after about 200m once he lobbed in behind the speed. He put them away and was soft in winning. If he gets a similar run this time around, he wins again. The question will be if he has to work to win, can he be as dynamic.
4 Osipenko (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a big improver here. I was keen on him resuming in the Eskimo Prince and as well as Nash is riding, what was this ride? Drew gate three and ended up four wide last…did a remarkable job to actually find the like he did behind Aft Cabin. If he gets a half positive ride here, gee I think he will run a massive race and can certainly take this out.
10 Brosnan… (Bet Now: $SP.00) is he back or flattered? I think it is a mixture of both. He did find the line really well fresh in the Eskimo Prince when fourth to Aft Cabin, but he did draw gate one and did no work in the run, dashing and warming to the task late in the piece. He didn’t really measure up in the Spring but off the return, I think he commands some level of respect.
Race 9. (17:20) Chandon (Bm100) 1400m
1 Cross Talk (Bet Now: $SP.00) will jump on the bunny and prove hard to beat fresh for GaiBott. He had a solid Winter/Spring prep, highlighted by a Winter Challenge win. Ended the Spring with a down the track effort in the Epsom, where it was an end of prep run. Unbeaten fresh and gee he looked to truck in a trial win at Rosehill. With his racing pattern, he’s going to take beating.
I am very interested in 3 Welwal (Bet Now: $SP.00), who resumes for Chris Waller. He’s a horse I have eyes on from a Doncaster perspective. He ran in the Golden Eagle and I am convinced he was going to run top five/thereabouts, but got badly checked in a messy race and the last 300m he was eased down by Frankie. Just one quiet trial to get ready but he could just have too much on these re brilliance.
10 Bullfinch (Bet Now: $SP.00) has been up forever but continues to hold his form pretty well. He ran third to Beaufort Park a few weeks back at Randwick. He had the suck run on the fence and was held up for a few strides but got out in enough time to win. He was good late but had his chance when third to Beaufort Park. A win wouldn’t shock at all…backing him to do it is another matter.
Race 10. (17:55) Cleanaway (Bm94) 1100m
6 Midwest (Bet Now: $SP.00) is a few weeks between runs for Team Freedman since racing over 1100m at Rosehill where he was on speed throughout and gave a solid kick but couldn’t quite finish it off and had to settle for a second to Mariamia, who came out and spanked them in the Expressway next start, so the form clearly reads well, and the short course is a big tick given he is a jump/run type.
Fitter, I want to give 11 Kote (Bet Now: $SP.00) another look. He resumed two weeks ago at Randwick where he attempted to lead throughout and he gave a solid kick from the front but couldn’t quite finish it off, with condition giving way when fifth to Remarque. He should jump on the bunny here and better for the run under the belt, he appeals as one of the key chances.
8 Maotai (Bet Now: $SP.00) has the right racing pattern for the Rosehill 1100m. He resumed on Magic Millions Day at the Gold Coast where he paraded quite big in condition and ran accordingly when down the track behind King Of Sparta. The depth here is nowhere near as strong and if they let him roll on speed, he is going to take catching I’m sure in what is a winnable race.
