A 3YO won his maiden at Taree yesterday, on debut, and the word to describe it is….WOW!
His name is NOSTRO RE and that seems to be an Italian banking reference.
Which might well be accurate as he is owned by the famous Italian Racing family – the Polettis of NSW.
Anyway, there seems to be every bloodline reason why he can fly. Nostro Re is by Not A Single Doubt from a Gr 3 winning Final Card mare called Card Queen.
Breeding buffs would recognise her name.
And when this young fella raced, he looked familiar too. His big sister is the former freakishly fast 2YO Karuta Queen who won the Magic Millions Classic and the Gr 3 Red Anchor. She earned $1,857,800 for her connections and while at stud gave the world the stakes winner Eawase.
She had a big white blaze on her chestnut head and ran out of the gates like the clappers…..exactly the same as this bloke.
He is a hulking chestnut with a huge white blaze and his speed all the way was breath-taking.
He is Saturday city class for sure.
The way he came from the outside gate, led then raced away under 59.5kg to win untouched and eased down by 5 and a half lengths was a mirror image of what his sister did in her hay day.
The field behind Nostro Re was scattered out like Brown’s cows – 4th horse for instance was 10 lengths behind him, the 8th horse was 19 lengths and the last home was 23.2 lengths away.
He cost $210,000 as a yearling but may be the last as his old mum, now 23 years old and already the dam of 11 to race, hasn’t kept a pregnancy since he was born.
As for Karuta Queen, she has an unraced 2YO daughter named Pocket Goddess (by Written Tycoon) and is believed to be in foal to Spirit Of Boom.
It’s a great family tree, but do yourself a favour and remember his name because he looks the real deal – Nostro Re.
