Eight races will be run and won at Morphettville this Saturday on the Parks track. The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.

Race 1. (13:36) Barossa Fine Foods Handicap (70) 1550m
Really like 3 So We Are (Bet Now: $4.20) as a horse. Think she wold have gone close two back had she now thrown it away by laying in behind Kenyan Wonder before backing up a week later at this track/distance and she got there to win, again laying in. She’s doing plenty wrong but no denying the engine under the bonnet is pretty good and up to 1550m looks ideal.
I don’t think 4 Allusion (Bet Now: $1.90) beat much when debuting with a win over 1400m here back on February 6 but it was the manner in which he did it that was impressive. Sat in the 1/1 before Caserta clicked him up on the turn and within moments, he went lengths clear and was drawing away with every stride, the final margin being nearly six lengths. Looks talented and confident he can measure up.
1 Blue Hope (Bet Now: $3.80) is a John McArdle trained colt who is in ripping form at the moment. He has won three on end, the latest being four weeks back here on the course proper when sitting just off the tempo before being clicked up by Jamie Mott and though out of petrol tickets late, he clung on to get the win. I think 1550m will be as far as he wants, but should be suited on the Parks track.
Race 2. (14:16) TAB Handicap 1000m
1 Gucci Guy (Bet Now: $6.50) is a Master Of Design colt for the Macdonald/Gluyas team that is on debut. This bloke has only had the one public trial, which came last week at Gawler where he looked to go about his business quite nicely I thought when third to Holy Dancer, beaten four lengths. This race does really lack depth to it, and they’re going well with the youngsters is the stable, so I’ll side his way.
3 Rose Tiara (Bet Now: $2.20) is a Peter Hardacre trained filly who was confidently backed when debuting at the Bool and under a lovely on speed steer from Dean Holland, the filly drew clear and won impressively. Don’t think she beat much but the manner in which she did it impressed me. Doesn’t have to be anything special to beat these and the claim for Zac Spain gets her very well in.
8 Minaj A Star (Bet Now: $13.00) is a Shane Nicholls trained filly on debut. This girl has had three trials, one of which was public on Feb 18 with jumpouts in between, so she’s been given a good grounding for her first start…I’d say off what I’ve seen, she’d need to improve, but in saying that, this isn’t a strong two year old and she doesn’t have to be anything special to figure in the finish.
Race 3. (14:51) AAMI Maiden Plate 1300m
6 Becharm (Bet Now: $4.00) is a daughter of Sebring for Tony McEvoy that is resuming. This girl hasn’t raced since July 10 on the Pakenham Synthetic when finishing midfield in what looked an okay maiden. Been given a good break and the two trials leading up to her return have been more than encouraging. Market will be the best guide as to how forward she is.
I think you’d be a brave soul to bet on 7 Charmist (Bet Now: $2.90) to win her maiden, especially in town. Gee she’s been a frustrating conveyance. Thought the maiden win would come last time at Strathalbyn and she looked to have every chance near the speed but couldn’t get the job, getting worried out of it by La Magique. Has run well in town though, which is a saving grace. She’s honest…just doesn’t win.
2 Country Cop (Bet Now: $23.00) is a David Jolly trained son of Epaulette who was well supported when debuting at Naracoorte over 1000m but for mine he just found the five furlongs too sharp when fourth to the progressive Never Short, but did make ground late, suggesting that extra ground will suit, which is what he gets here, and does have fitness on his side.
Race 4. (15:26) Nutella Palooza April 20 Handicap (75) 2400m
2 Rockarral (Bet Now: $1.50) looks the way to go. Tony McEvoy has this bloke going really well at the moment, winning last time out over 2400m at Sandown where he had to fight hard late but kept finding under Currie to nab The Delphi right on the peg. Win prior here was excellent and he looks to be heading in the right direction. Think he can continue the picket fence.
3 Liberty Lover (Bet Now: $8.50) is a daughter of Rebel Raider for the Macdonald/Gluyas stable that was having her first run in a month when racing at Gawler over 2100m last Wednesday where she was near the speed and tried hard but couldn’t quite get there when third to Exalted Bloom. Not the greatest of winning strike rates, but is a stayer and this race lacks overall depth.
4 Athos (Bet Now: $17.00) is a Sue Murphy trained stayer who is five weeks between runs since contesting a 2000m race at Penola where he sat back last in the small field and I don’t think that sort of race suited him at all. He’s better than that and interesting he goes to 2400m with five weeks off. Would take a good training effort, so I’d include him in multiples just in case.
Race 5. (16:11) TAB Adelaide Cup March 11 Handicap (82) 1400m
Surely this is D-Day for 6 Holy Command (Bet Now: $3.40). Mick Price trains this galloper, who has been quite good at times when coming to Adelaide but his form in two runs back from a break have been below par, the latest being a fortnight back at this track/distance when disappointing behind Amberdi. Clearly not as much depth this time around…gets a great chance to bounce back.
4 Kifaah (Bet Now: $15.00) is a former Hayes/Dabernig runner that has done a fabulous job since joining the Matty Seyers stable. Resumed during the Kingscote Carnival when unwanted in betting but class got him home in a super return, his first run since September last year. Second up syndrome off the long break a query, but hard to ignore what he did fresh over an unsuitable trip.
I think a big improver here could be 5 Sizzling Bullet (Bet Now: $19.00). Resumed over 1200m on the course proper four weeks ago and was never really in the hunt behind an above average galloper in Crown Fontein. 1400m is probably still short of his best, but this race does really lack depth to it and he’s a two time second up winner, so he could be a sharp improver.
Race 6. (16:50) Elton John Experience July 27 Handicap (64) 1400m
It was hard not to be impressed by the first up win of 8 Equal Love (Bet Now: $6.00) at Balaklava. Punters knew what they were doing, back her into a hard odds on fav and she didn’t give her supporters too much concern with a dominant victory, aided by a lovely steer from Gary Lo. Building up a tidy little record and though it’s her first crack at Saturday metro level, I think she can measure up.
7 Bubblerap (Bet Now: $9.00) is a son of More Than Ready for the Will Clarken stable that resumes. There was a whisper going around after his strong debut win at Gawler back in October that Hong Kong was knocking on the door but he remains with Clarken and is back ready to race off the back of a trial win last week at Gawler where he looked good to the eye and time was solid relative to the morning.
3 White Kaps (Bet Now: $21.00) probably lacks the class to match it with a couple of these but his recent efforts haven’t been too bad. Ran over 900m at Murray Bridge last time where he had a good sit just off the speed and loomed to win but had no answers for Exalted Maxine, who was impressive. Don’t think that’s the right form for this, but with a reasonable trip, he could place or run first four at odds.
Race 7. (17:31) Heineken 3 Handicap (64) 1550m
6 Zagato Star (Bet Now: $6.00) on top for me. The Ryan Balfour stable has this mare going really well at the moment, with the daughter of Barbados getting the job done impressively over 1400m at Balaklava last time. Was confidently backed to win the race and after getting the dream sit just off the pace, she put them away and won quite well. 1550m no issue and she’s one of the hardest to beat.
8 Ashady Hussy (Bet Now: $10.00) deserves another crack at metro level. Good effort two back over 1200m when beaten narrowly by In The Fast Lane before being given a freshen up and class getting her home at Strathalbyn. Good effort that because she was fresh at 1350m against some handy types, so I think there’s improvement left and up to 1550m should suit her.
Sue Nolan has done a fab job with 5 Prince Monarch (Bet Now: $16.00) this time in. Impressive maiden winner first up at Murray Bridge before going to the 1400m here where the start cost him the win. Then went to Strathalbyn where he surged and just missed out on picking up Ashady Hussy. I think 1550m will be fine for him, but he can’t be tardy away and expect to win.
Race 8. (18:10) Guinness St Pats Day March 19 Handicap (64) 1300m
Taking a chance on 13 Cosmic Alert (Bet Now: $7.50) for the Will Clarken stable. This filly has shown good promise since day one but unfortunately hasn’t lived up to that early hype. Resumes for Clarken in a very winnable race and looked to trial well to my eye last week at Gawler. Market normally is the guide, but if she’s solid in betting, I think she’s the pony to bet on.
Sue Jaensch has done an outstanding job with 1 Lockdown Jack (Bet Now: $4.50). Once upon a time this horse would struggle beyond 1000m but since Jaensch has taken over, this horse seems much stronger at the end of his races. Resumed over 1200m at Donald where he was midfield and wide all the way but he kept finding and on the line he was clearly the strongest. Bodes well for the rest of the prep I’d say.
14 Now And Forever (Bet Now: $4.20) is a daughter of Mossman for the Tony McEvoy stable who took a little while to break the maiden tag but she finally did it over 1200m at Strathalbyn last time, showing good gate speed to lead them up and from there, Stubby took control and she was too good. Harder here, but she’s got a win on the board now, so her confidence levels could well be up and she’s got the right racing pattern.
