The Adelaide Racing Carnival continues this Saturday with another strong eight race card, highlighted by the Port Adelaide Guineas (1800m). The weather is overcast, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres from the 1200m-Winning Post; True for the remainder.

Race One (13:03) : Eddie The Eagle Handicap (90) 1600m:
Back Me: 7 Monteux (Best Odds: $5.00) was an alarming drifter first up at Pakenham but he was simply too good for them. He then went to the Valley and stuck on well when fourth to Entre Finou, who is in ripping form himself, so the form doesn’t read too bad and he has upside.
Big Danger: 6 Into The Mist (Best Odds: $3.10) is a quality mare for Tony McEvoy who comes here off the back of a last start third over 1500m at Moonee Valley in a handy race. Bit of depth here, but she has a good finish on her and can unleash late.
Roughie: 1 Excites Zelady (Best Odds: $4.60) comes here off the back of a strong win over 1550m on the Parks track, beating home Rivers Lane, who won last weekend to frank the form. Better suited on the course proper and should only improve off that.

Race Two (13:38) : UBET’s Adelaide’s Festival Of Racing Handicap (82) 2500m:
Back Me: 1 High Church (Best Odds: $2.80) was given a lovely ride from Katelyn Mallyon to win last time out over 2400m at Caulfield, albeit in a pretty thin race. Bit more depth here, but he comes three weeks between runs, stable is flying and they are near unbeatable when they bring horses to SA, so for mine he is the one to beat.
Big Danger: 5 Red Fella (Best Odds: $6.50) ran fourth to High Church in that race mentioned above and he was desperately unlucky when beaten a length given he was never really clear in the straight, and he is the sort of horse that needs clear running to build up momentum. Won his lone start here and comes here third up, so he has enormous upside.
Roughie: 4 Loncava (Best Odds: $14.00) was an impressive winner over 1950m on the Parks track before racing at Oakbank where he attempted to lead all the way but was just terrible behind Flying Casino, who ran a beauty last Saturday, so the form reads well, and if he can recover from that Oakbank flop, he is a legitimate winning chance.

Race Three (14:18) : Schweppes Handicap (70) 2014m:
Back Me: 3 Sure You Can (Best Odds: $4.20) looks the way to go here. She ran over 2000m at Caulfield last time out and closed off nicely behind Miss Wynette, who ran well here last week in what looks to be a strong form race. She is a Group performer so given that, she isn’t badly treated at the weights.
Big Danger: 2 Master Of Arts (Best Odds: $2.50) comes here after just a fair run over this trip at Mornington behind Velox where he seemingly had his chance. Less depth and as I keep saying, stable rarely leave Morphettville empty handed.
Roughie: 8 He’s A Genius (Best Odds: $21.00) ran in the Stawell Cup (2000m) last time out and the inexperience just told late when he ran fourth to the above average and improved Killarney Kid. This looks more his level so he should acquit himself well.

Race Four (14:53) : UBET Handicap (70) 1200m:
Back Me: 4 Faatinah (Best Odds: $2.10) resumes here for the Hayes/Dabernig team. She is a very handy three year old who I’m sure has had a jump out or two leading in. Has a bit of quality about her and looks the way to go, especially given how well the stable are going in SA at the moment.
Big Danger: 3 Call Me Curtis (Best Odds: $6.50) was a bit outclassed last time out at Mornington where he simply couldn’t get into the race from the back. This looks more his level, he’s hard fit and the drop in trip will be ideal.
Roughie: 2 Beau Rivage (Best Odds: $8.00) had done nothing this time in, but was heavily backed at odds last start and duly saluted impressively. His form on the course proper isn’t as good, but now he has that winning feeling, he could well go right on with it.

Race Five (15:33) : Mittys Hanicap (64) 1050m:
Back Me: 6 Moral Outrage (Best Odds: $3.20) is a handy type for the Hayes/Dabernig yard. He won two on the trot before going to the Oakbank Carnival where he sat on speed and stuck on well when second to Viddora, who was smashed in betting and won again last weekend to frank the form.
Big Danger: 9 Murti (Best Odds: $4.20) debuted over 1200m at Strathalbyn and was awfully impressive in leading all the way and winning by 5.5L. Back to 1050m will be no issue and though rising sharply in grade, that win was sharp and the time was the quickest of the three 1200m races on the same program. I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t measure up here.
Roughie: 10 Chondra (Best Odds: $15.00) resumed over this distance during the Oakbank Carnival and stuck to the task pretty well I thought when running fourth to on speed type Our Kappy. Terrible second up record, but this is a winnable race.

Race Six (16:13) : Campolina Stud Breeders’ Stakes 1200m:
Back Me: 4 So You Too (Best Odds: $26.00) debuted in that Moqla race mentioned above and he closed off strongly late in the race to be only beaten 3.6L. He looks a real stayer of the future and could be back here in 12 months time for a crack at a Derby. He will get back late, bit look for him to ambush.
Big Danger: 11 Smart Monoeuvre (Best Odds: $5.00) resumed over 1100m here a couple of weeks back where she was the well backed favourite and though she didn’t win, she closed off nicely late in the race behind Moqla. Up to 1200m and added fitness should only be ideal and the stable is firing with their youngsters at the moment.
Roughie: 2 Explosive Gift (Best Odds: $13.00) is on debut for the Hyam yard. No trials, so we are only going on breeding, but there has been a sprinkling of money for him and Paull Gatt rides, so see if the push continues.

Race Seven (16:53) : Marsh Port Adelaide Guineas 1800m:
Back Me: 5 Howard Be Thy Name (Best Odds: $5.00) produced a lovely turn of foot from the back to win impressively last time out against the older horses at Pakenham. That was his first run since the Tassie Derby so there should be good upside and the stable has a wonderful strike rate when sending horses to SA.
Big Danger: 2 Hardern (Best Odds: $5.50) drops back in trip after running over 2000m last time out at Caulfield where he closed off strongly from the back to run third to Cool Chap, who ran well last weekend behind the future SA Derby winner, Charlevoix. That form reads well and this horse is hard fit. Hopefully the stable gets better luck than last week with Thames Court.
Roughie: 10 Duke Of Boneo (Best Odds: $16.00) ran a tick under two weeks back at Geelong against the older horses and produced a lovely turn of foot to win narrowly in a race where the form looks a tad suspect, but I will respect the fact that Darren Weir has brought him over.

Race Eight (17:28) : MAC Drink Driving? GROW UP Handicap (82) 1200m:
Back Me: 14 Ample On Offa (Best Odds: $7.50) won that trial Time To Test trialled in before resuming over 1250m on the Parks track where he ran a game second to the in form Hayes/Dabernig galloper Master Sommelier. He has a very good second up record and though he is unplaced in two runs on the course proper, he is going well enough to be a threat.
Big Danger: 13 Master Sommelier (Best Odds: $6.50) won that race mentioned above and was well backed in betting, duly saluting after a gun steer from Matty Neilson, who remains on. Draws better and gets weight relief, so he is a definite threat.
Roughie: 18 Fastcar (Best Odds: $21.00) has been given a month freshen up after running a game fourth over this track/distance behind Bay Road. Tumbles big time in weight, draws well and he will be strong late for sure.
