A strong card of racing has been assembled for Randwick on Saturday, and while there are no feature races, the depth looks very strong once again, which should ensure some value for the punters. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit

Race One (12:40) : Surf Meets Turf Plate 1000m:

Back Me: Regimental Force (Best Odds: $1.65) looks the way to go here. Regally bred by Sepoy out of Regimental Gal who has had just the one public appearance, which resulted in a 9.5L trial win at Rosehill last Tuesday, and the time was one of the fastest of the morning, clearly quicker than the other two year old trials that morning. Should win based on the trial.
Big Danger: El Sid (Best Odds: $11.00) is on debut for Anthony Cummings. He has had one public appearance, which happened on November 16 at Randwick when making up a stack of ground near the inside when running second, where the inside was like quicksand. Another that should be watched closely with the market.
Roughie: Big watch on the Port Macquarie first starter Dreamalina (Best Odds: $51.00), who debuts here off the back of a slick trial win at Taree, winning that by over three lengths in good style. The dam has produced a couple of winners, and you always have to respect the stable when they send them to town straight away.

Race Two (13:20) : Clubsnsw Plate 1400m:

Back Me: More To Gain (Best Odds: $7.50) has been ultra impressive at his past two starts, both resulting in wins. The latest came over 1300m at Rosehill three weeks back where he just lapped up the heavy track and savaged the line. The Randwick 1400m is perfect and his turn of foot is just as good on top of the ground.
Big Danger: Tarquin (Best Odds: $2.40) looks the main threat. He is a talented type for Godolphin who hasn’t raced since the Autumn when running third to Pasadena Girl in the Champagne (1600m). Loved the way he trialled at Rosehill last week, and for mine, he looks forward enough to run well fresh.
Roughie: Pale Ale (Best Odds: $13.00) was an alarming drifter in betting when resuming at Hawkesbury but that market shift didn’t worry her, thanks to a lovely steer from Sam Clipperton, who got the filly home. On her home track now, and she showed on debut at Canterbury that she looks well above average.

Race Three (13:55) : Hunter Valley Horse Capital Handicap (77) 2000m:

Back Me: Kontiki Dane (Best Odds: $4.40) was first past the post last Friday night at Canterbury but the Gai Waterhouse runner lost it in the Stewards room due to waywardness in the straight. Back on his home track now, and he was very impressive in winning over 1800m here on Cup Day.
Big Danger: The horse that got the verdict in the Stewards room was Olympic Academy (Best Odds: $7.50), and it might not be the conventional way of winning, it was a well deserved victory for this horse, who had been bursting to greet the judge. I think the 2000m will be ideal and he will be in it for a long way IMO.
Roughie: The horse with upside is Platinum Jack (Best Odds: $34.00). He ran a cracker when resuming at Kembla Grange, then like many, he was not suited out the back in the Goulburn Cup (1600m) given it was dominated by those near the speed. Up to 2000m is ideal for him, he is a proven city performer and will be strong at the end.

Race Four (14:30) : TAB Highway Handicap (Class 2) 1100m:

Back Me: Clearly Innocent (Best Odds: $3.30) looks the clear top pick and one of the better bets on the program. This Greg Bennett trained runner is unbeaten in two runs, which occurred in the Winter. Recent trial on his home track was slick, and the time was one of the fastest recorded for a 900m trial on the track. Should be said on both occasions he raced he was wide no cover. If there is any rain about and the track has any give in it, this horse will be a multi anchor for me.
Big Danger: Noble Joey (Best Odds: $6.50) was unbeaten in two runs prior to this prep. Both runs have been in Highway races, and on both occasions he has been pretty good, the latest when a close up fifth to Bitburg. Third up, so he should be at peak fitness and the stable has had great success in this race concept.
Roughie: Skipper (Best Odds: $151.00) is the value runner for sure IMO. This horse was formerly with Chris Waller before being sent to the Northern Rivers, where she won a couple of races. Recent Taree trial win was good and will be strong late.

Race Five (15:05) : Inglis Classic Sale Night Session Handicap (93) 1400m:

Back Me: I’ll give Medcaut (Best Odds: $7.50) another chance here. He was supported early on but then was an alarming drifter on track when resuming at Rosehill a fortnight back and ran accordingly, finishing tailed off in last spot. Wasn’t asked to do much in a trial here on Monday morning, and he did appear in better shape, so I’ll forget the first up shocker.
Big Danger: Zin Zan Eddie (Best Odds: $4.20) continued his solid form on wet ground last time out when running second to Howmuchyouloveme, who franked the form by placing in the Starlight (1100m) last weekend. The step up to 1400m is ideal and on a firm track too, which helps. Had it been on a wet track, I think he’d be a risk to run the distance out, but I think he will on top of the ground.
Roughie: Wine Tales (Best Odds: $5.50) should have been on the cover of the ’50 Shades Of Grey’ movie trailer because she is just an absolute tease. Threatens to win but just doesn’t go on with it. She teased again last start when working home strongly to run second to Gamblestown. I won’t be backing her, because she has been too costly, but she could easily spank this field.

Race Six (15:45) : Segenhoe Cup (78) 1400m:

Back Me: I’ve always been sucked in by All Cerise (Best Odds: $9.00), and I’ll be sucked in again. She was a month between runs when working home well at Rosehill behind Festivity, who crawled them in front and gave nothing from the back a chance. Should improve fitness wise and the key to her will be the firm track. Great winning chance IMO.
Big Danger: La Speciale (Best Odds: $3.60) finished second to Festivity, and she was very good considering she was back near last in the run and made up a stack of ground to only be beaten two lengths. Might be looking for the mile now, but the Randwick 1400m is the next best thing.
Roughie: Mandalong Kiss (Best Odds: $13.00) took on the boys last start at Rosehill and worked home strongly against the slow tempo when a close up fourth to Figtree. Form out of that was pretty good last weekend, and now this mare is back to her own sex in a race where there should be a more genuine tempo, so she should get her chance.

Race Seven (16:25) : The Swim Between The Flags Handicap (85) 1000m:

Back Me: I’ll go with Mahican (Best Odds: $6.00). This former Peter Moody runner is now under the care of Gerald Ryan. He looked outstanding in the first trial leading in, scooting along in front and spanking them. He then trialled again last week and wasn’t quite as impressive when running fourth. But he looks wound up to run well fresh and this is a very winnable race.
Big Danger: Felines (Best Odds: $5.00) is a talented mare that resumes for Kris Lees. She hasn’t raced since late August when finishing a close up third to Sultry Feeling, who performed well in a couple of Stakes races during the Carnival. Recent trial win at Cessnock was sharp and the time was clearly the fastest of the morning. Runs well fresh and has a good record at the track/distance.
Roughie: Inside Job (Best Odds: $7.50) could be a sharp improver on top of the ground. He resumed on a Soft track at Canterbury and didn’t handle it at all when running last of four behind Bullpit. Brodie Loy is back on and he rides the horse better than anyone. Draws to get the good run also.

Race Eight (17:05) : Choose Segenhoe Handicap (77) 1600m:

Back Me: Cauthen’s Power (Best Odds: $2.80) was given an absolute peach from McDonald to win at Rosehill a fortnight back, settling on the rail from a wide gate before peeling out and letting down strongly for a dominant win. This horse has the potential to be a Stakes horse, and given he was performing well at 1800m last time in, the Randwick mile third up should be perfect.
Big Danger: This is D-Day for Duca Valentinois (Best Odds: $7.50). The boom on him was huge after impressive trial efforts, but his two efforts this time in have been just fair, but there were excuses last start given he didn’t pull up 100%. Third up, dry ground, big track…he has to stand up here.
Roughie: Banksters Bonus (Best Odds: $34.00) was specked at odds when resuming at Rosehill a few weeks back where he worked home very strongly late to run third to impressive winner Telepathic, who franked the form by winning on the weekend. Should only improve off that and he did place second up last time in.

Race Nine (17:45) : Inglis Melbourne Premier In March Handicap (78) 1200m:

Back Me: Putting Wudang Mountain (Best Odds: $7.00) on top. He hasn’t raced since October 24 over 1400m here where he didn’t pull up 100% after failing behind Secret Prophet, who ran well during Cup Week at Flemington. Recent trial was encouraging and despite taking on the older horses, on his best form, he’d just about beat these IMO.
Big Danger: Sports Edition (Best Odds: $6.50)was having his first run in 17 months when sitting on a hot speed and sticking on well to run sixth to Fiftyshadesofgrey. Form out of that race held up in the Starlight (1100m) last Saturday and this horse should only improve with the run under the belt.
Roughie: Hard To Hold (Best Odds: $15.00) looks a knockout chance. Resumes here for Bjorn Baker off the back of a couple of nice trials, the latest at Hawkesbury where he looked in good order in running second. Maps beautifully here, sitting behind likely leader Invitations, and could have the last say.
