Mosheen has stolen the headlines in recent weeks but Sydney’s pin-up filly Streama will be out to create her own in the Coolmore Classic.
Winner of the Group One Flight Stakes by more than six lengths in the spring, Streama is racing in the same season as Mosheen and Atlantic Jewel, who has also been dominant in her big-race wins.
Streama will take on older horses for the first time in Saturday’s Group One Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill.
But down the track trainer Guy Walter says it will be exciting to see the three fillies clash.
“I know Atlantic Jewel did fantastic things in the spring but Mosheen, what a filly she is,” Walter said.
“She has run second in the (Golden) Slipper, she won the (VRC) Oaks in a canter by nine lengths and has beaten the colts twice this preparation in the Australian Guineas and the Randwick Guineas. That is one fantastic filly.
“She has done more than Streama at this stage obviously, but I think Streama is pretty good too.
“I think they are three outstanding fillies and it would be lovely to see them clash one day.”
Streama will carry 55kg in the Coolmore and will jump from barrier nine in the field of 14 with regular rider Hugh Bowman on board.
Walter has great faith in Streama’s ability but admits the last-start Surround Stakes winner will have to overcome a couple of hurdles to add to her winning haul.
“I’m very, very happy with Streama,” Walter said.
“She’s done all we’ve ever asked of her and more. She’s obviously a high-class filly, however 55 kilos is a tough weight to carry for a three-year-old filly.
“She only gets half a kilo off an outstanding mare like Red Tracer which is not easy. She’s also got an awkward gate so I think she’s got a bit against her.
“But having said that she’s got a fantastic turn of foot and is very adaptable so that’s going to carry her a long way.”
Walter isn’t locked in to an autumn path for Streama after the Coolmore but the Group One Doncaster Mile is a definite option.
The filly is also nominated for the Australian Oaks.
“If she was to win it would probably give us more confidence to go towards a Doncaster,” Walter said.
“She’s only ever beaten her own age and sex so far.”
Streama is the $3 TAB Sportsbet favourite for the Coolmore while Walter will also saddle up Foxstar who is at $26.
“(Foxstar) is a very nice mare with a good winning record and if they run along at a fast speed she could be there at the finish,” Walter said.
“She possibly wants it a little longer and would be dependent on a fast speed, but she gets in with 52 kilos.”
