Racing is back at Caulfield on Saturday where we see the return of the highly fancied Blue Diamond hope Jimando in race four and gun sprinter from the Jason Warren yard Bel Sprinter in race six. The first leg of the quaddie is race five which kicks off at 3:50pm AEST featuring 2011 VRC OAKS winner Mosheen resuming from a spell.
Race 1:
Tricky opening to a ripper program at Caulfield where we see some smart mares do battle over the shortcourse. (1) Obsidian Dragon has blinding early pace and from the gun draw should hold the fence clearly. There is sure to be plenty of pace on which is why i’m tipping (3) Star of Giselle to break through 3rd up from a spell. She should sit just off the pace and come with a well timed run to score her 3rd career win. (2) Avionics was aided by the leader bias her last week but should box seat and run well again.
Selections- 3,1,2,5
Race 2:
Good race here where a couple of handy fillies resume from a spell including the Peter Moody trained (1) Le Societte. She was last seen in the winter months winning both her starts impressively on rain affected going. Sticking with the fit horse here in (2) Leoncita who was simply too slick down the Flemington straight last start defeating Lady Antebellum who came out and beat the well tried Soft Sand here at this track on Australia Day. Leoncita should lead unchallenged and be mighty hard to run down. (3) Shopaholic is well above average and shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Selections- 2,1,3,4
Race 3:
0-89 over 1700m here where (1) Population looks a great each way chance as he will be in the firing line throughout either leading or sitting outside (8) Port Vell. He ran well at Flemington behind Let’s Be Happy beaten under a length before taking out the Camperdown Cup in determined fashion. With the 3kg claim from Katelyn Mallyon he gets into the race very well placed. (11) Prizum won convincingly in lesser grade at Geelong last start and goes around here with just 51kg on his back, 3kg below the minimum!
Selections- 1,11,9,8
Race 4:
(1) Jimando couldn’t have been more impressive at his debut back on Thousand Guineas day in the spring, running out a dominant victor by 3L with Blue Diamond Preview winner The Travelling Man back in 4th. If he’s come on like he should have, he’ll brain this lot. (4) Yocto could be big value in the exactas on the back of a smart Seymour maiden victory. He maps in the box seat with Luke Nolen on board giving him every possible hope.
Selections- 1,4,2,3
Race 5:
One of the features of the day, the Shadwell Australasia Stakes, where 2011 VRC Oaks winner (1) Mosheen makes her return to the track. (3) Secret Hills should get the run of the race one out one back and be in the striking line as they swing for home. He ran into Helmet twice in the spring including a 2nd to that galloper in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude. (6) Rifleman gets the services of Dwayne Dunn here after a solid on speed victory at Morphettville last time out. He should be up on the pace again and fit horses this time of year are hard to run down.
Selections- 3,6,4,9
Race 6:
The public finally get to see gun short courser (1) Bel Sprinter step out again as he shoots for 5 wins from just the 6 starts. He is already the clear top elect in early markets and should get the job done onto big things this Autumn. (3) Definately Ready should run straight to the top and run his usual honest race while the best roughie all day is likely to be greater than 50-1 (10) Silver Bullion from the Leon Corstens stable. He was spotted making good ground along the inside behind Catapulted down the straight and should now be fit enough to run a race.
Selections- 1,3,2,10
Race 7:
Some smart middle distance performers step out over 2000m here where (8) Seguro looks over the odds at the early quote of around 17-1. He should go forward from his handy draw where he races best and take running down. (5) Bolton donkey licked a good field at Flemington but was aided by a peach of a ride from Nick Hall on that occasion. He might need a little luck from gate one here but with an ounce of luck can repeat on his latest effort.
Selections- 8,5,7,4
Race 8:
Hard race to finish the program with no less than 6 winning chances. (10) Module goes like a bomb fresh and should be able to come across from his wide gate and slot in one off the fence better than midfield. If theres any decent support for him in the market i’d suggest you follow with confidence. (6) Mr Make Believe is a ripper each way chance as he looks the only leader in the race. He hasn’t set the world on fire in two runs this time in but gets every chance to improve on his numerical form here. Sydney visitor (7) Parthian is a model of consistency and should enjoy a gun run throughout.
Selections- 10,6,7,2
