French trained Americain firmed from $21 to $11 for the 2010 Melbourne Cup following his Geelong Cup victory and Sportingbet Australia punters were obviously impressed with one placing $5000 on him at $11.

One Sportingbet Australia punter looked like he’d made a smart investment when Count Encosta loomed up to win yesterday’s race after he invested a Melbourne Cup bet of $2000 on the Patinack galloper at $251.
Sullivan said it could still prove to be a smart bet.
“Count Encosta is struggling to qualify but he gave me the impression he’ll stay all day,†Sullivan said.
“If they press on and he can pick up first or second in the Lexus Stakes he’ll sneak into the race as a lightweight chance.â€
