Victoria’s Racing Integrity Commissioner Sal Perna has launched an inquiry into allegations of widespread race fixing in the state.
Mr Perna says the inquiry will call for any individual who has information and wishes to pass it on to come forward.
The inquiry will begin on Monday and run until September 14.
Mr Perna said he was surprised at allegations aired in the media concerning race fixing and betting by jockeys and others.
“It’s time I stepped in and had a look,” he told reporters on Thursday.
“I need to understand if it’s a systemic issue, or if it is isolated.”
Victoria Police are investigating if a race at Cranbourne in April was fixed, after the allegation came to their attention during the investigation of the murder in Melbourne of Sydney racing identity Les Samba.
