In-form apprentice Blake Spriggs has escaped injury in a fall at Canterbury on Wednesday but has been stood down from his remaining rides at the meeting.
Spriggs came down in the back straight during the opening race aboard two-year-old Jingle All The Way who was at the tail of the field at the time.
After being placed on a spinal board by medical staff as a precaution, Spriggs was able to walk back to the jockeys’ room.
The youngster wanted to continue riding but was stood down by the Australian Turf Club’s doctor.
“I’m OK….usually when you have been riding winners and have a fall like that you are out for a couple of months. I’m lucky to be able to walk away,” Spriggs said.
“I’m a little bit stiff and sore but I’m OK.
“My horse was just racing green inside Josh (Adams’ mount Windswept) and just running away from his horse a bit.
“It tapped the fence and panicked and just lost its footing and slipped over.”
Spriggs was confident he would be fit to ride at Wyong on Thursday.
“I wanted to ride again but the doctor wanted me to have the rest of the day off,” Spriggs said.
“I’ll be right for tomorrow at Wyong and I’ve got good rides on Saturday as well at Rosehill so I’ll be right to go.”
