A plan for Pronto Pronto to take Sydney race experience into the $1 million Golden Rose will see the promising colt step out at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
Mornington trainer Jason Warren believes Pronto Pronto has Group One ability and the Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on September 15 is set to be his first chance to prove it.
“He’s a pretty classy colt. I think he’s pretty much up to winning a Group One, it’s just a matter of at what distance,” Warren said.
“We haven’t been able to work that out yet but his next couple of runs will tell us which direction we go.
“The Golden Rose is the first target and then we can plan a path to the Caulfield Guineas if he looks like getting a mile.”
Warren has mapped out a plan for Pronto Pronto to tackle the Golden Rose third-up and Saturday’s Listed Rosebud (1200m) is crucial to those ambitions.
Runner-up to All Too Hard in Melbourne’s Sire’s Produce Stakes last season, Pronto Pronto will take on a small field in his first Sydney start, including impressive last-start winners She’s A Fox and Urquidez.
“He’ll be coming home for his next start at Caulfield in three weeks and then if he’s going well enough he’ll go back and run in the Golden Rose,” Warren said.
“That’s the plan.”
Warren said taking on race-fit runners in Pronto Pronto’s first Sydney start first-up made the colt vulnerable.
“Ability-wise he’s up to it but there are a couple of other factors that are unknown,” he said.
“But I’m pretty happy with him.”
Warren also has Jayconi in the final race and believes he’s well-placed in the 1100m contest.
