Talented filly Colorado Claire landed a big betting plunge at Canterbury on Wednesday when she scored an easy first-up win.
The John O’Shea-trained three-year-old was scratched from last Saturday’s Group Two Light Fingers Stakes at Warwick Farm which was won by stablemate Sea Siren.
But she will be given her chance in black-type company next start in either Sydney or Melbourne.
Colorado Claire opened at $2.30 for the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1250m) but by jump time the filly had been crunched into $1.55 favouritism.
Premiership-winning jockey Nash Rawiller parked her outside the leader during the run before going on to defeat Rose Pattern by a length with a short neck to She’s Clean in third.
“It was a good effort, even with the 59 kilos,” O’Shea said.
“It was pretty effortless and we’ll just poke along and probably run her in a stakes race in just over a fortnight.”
O’Shea said either the Surround Stakes (1400m) in Sydney on March 10 or the Kewney Stakes at Flemington on the same day over the same distance were the options for Colorado Claire’s next start.
“The Surround Stakes is there in two-and-a-half weeks and I think she’ll appreciate 1400 metres,” O’Shea said.
“The option is also there to take her to Melbourne for the Kewney Stakes on the same day and I think the big track at Flemington would suit her.”
